Well he talks a good story, reservations about if he can deliver it though....be nice if he could.. FRAIZER Campbell aims to come of age as a Sunderland striker next season, and has targeted a double figures goals tally in the 2012/13 campaign. The 24-year-old, who joined the Black Cats from Manchester United in the summer of 2009, has seen his career at the Stadium of Light blighted by two career-threatening cruciate ligament injuries. But he returned to first-team action in January this year and believes that, after a close-season break and with a good pre-season behind him, he can finally deliver on his undoubted potential. That will be music to the ears of Martin OâNeill. The Sunderland manager went into the close season vowing to bring in players who could manage double figure returns next season, but he will be delighted if part of the solution can be found closer to home. The striker said: âI would like to think, if I played the majority of games, I could easily hit double figures. âBut I just want to concentrate on being fit and putting myself in a position where I can be the player who helps solve the goalscoring problems. âI have not been playing regularly for the last couple of seasons, so it would hard to put a tag of prolific striker on me. âFor me, it is just a case of concentrating on my football and if I score a few goals then I score a few goals â it is something to aim for. âIf I have a good pre-season and get as fit as everybody else then it helps you a lot. âDuring the season, the training is not as intense as it is at the beginning and you donât really get that good solid base, but hopefully this time it will be different for me.â Certainly, Campbell will hope Sunderland start next season in better form than they finished the last one. After a stunning initial upturn of results upon OâNeillâs arrival in December, Sunderlandâs form fell away badly towards the end of the campaign, with the Wearsiders subsiding from eight place at one stage to a last day 13th. âThank God thatâs over!â smiled Campbell, referring to Sunderlandâs slump towards the end of the season, although he personally was simply thrilled to be back. âObviously, it was disappointing to be injured all that time, but, having said that, it did make it even more special when I came back, scored the goal and got my England cap, so itâs mixed emotions really. âThere have been some good bits and some rubbish bits, but hopefully I can continue with the good and leave all the other stuff behind. âIt has been a strange one, but I will be back next season.â
Dont think he's the man to get us double figures. Im hoping he's at best 3rd choice striker next year.
I think a lot of people have written Campbell off too early. We all have to remember how long he was out for and then how fast he was bought back in. The lad has massive potential. If you count the fact he has missed 2 years and has not had a pre season its remarkable that he did as well as he did. He is not the sole answer and MON needs to buy another top class striker (maybe even 2) so we are not caught short next season.
I think hes a canny player but he's not a goalscorer. A natural finisher could have been out two years and they'd still have buried the chances he had against Fulham and Man Utd
disagree completely mate (All about opinions) - Shearer - one of the most natural finishers the english game has ever seen: Season 95/96 P 35 G 31 Season 96/97 P 31 G 25 Season 97/98 P 17 G 2 - After long term injury Season 98/99 P30 G 14 and then he got back his scoring boots - Almost a goal a game before his injury then for 48 games he played he got 16 goals - 1 in 3. Injury can wreck a career and coming back from it is very difficult - it will always take time and no matter how natural a finisher you are, you get rusty when you can't play regularly
But Shearer has already set a very high standard and his road back was to get to those very high standards, Campbell on the other hand still has to prove that he is of a standard that will guarantee goals. Afraid he still has a lot to prove , I would be very surprised if he is a first choice next year.
I love this kid to bits and no one would be more made up to see him score 15 to 20 goals in 40 games next season. He has a great attitude and aptitude and is a great ambassador for our club imo. However, the jury is still very much out on him too and next season is a make or break one do him, as he is no longer a little kid in the game. I too think those injuries may have ended his ambition to play top flight football at a sustained level but I would love him to prove me so wrong.
Did anyone else hear the rumour about him asking for a move? He has one year left on his contract and to be honest if there's anything in that or Fulhams interest id sell him. We could lose him for nowt in a year and one more injury and he's finished. Theres better strikers in the championship and that's a fact
Where ever he plys his trade, save the next reproduction till after your playing days. I have never whitnessed a worse performance EVER, obviously fatherhood and football DON'T MIX
There were alot of people mentioning it at the Man Utd game. Dont know how much truth there is in it if any
ALL well and good, lets just hope he stays and gets his form back. He will never be Superkev, but then again how many others could live up to the title.
