Hi Newbie here. I am told there is a BCFC poster who lives in the Dorchester area, I live nearby and would like to make contact and hopefully when this terrible virus is finally contained maybe meet up for a pint or 3.

Nice to have more City fans join us, as Wiz said we have two posters who live in the same area as yourself.
Thank you for the kind words. A bit about me. I am a Bedminster boy. I went to my first game at Ashton Gate, as a 4 year old in 1958 like most City fans I expect, I went with my dad. I have a vague memory that it was a youth match. From then on I was hooked, I attended games regularly from that first game onwards, the early 60's is personal favourite time of mine. My first away game was Torquay away in 1961, ironically an Easter Monday evening game, I went with my paternal grandfather, it was a 0-0 draw. I was at AG in May 1965 when after the most incredible run in City won promotion from the 3rd to the 2nd division. December 1965 Wolves at home in a friendly for the grand opening of the new floodlight, over 36,000 people there. My first away game without a chaperone was Southampton away April 1966, went on the train with my mates. City came close to going straight up to the first division, again it was a Easter Monday game City drew 2-2. About one month later Big John Atyeo played his very last game for City at home to Ipswich, going into the game he was on 349 goals, City won 4-1 and he scored 2 leaving the pitch in floods of tears, sadly only just over 13,000 there that night. This was my introduction to City, I followed City all over the country from then on until about 2002, when I moved to France I returned back to the UK in November 2018. I did return for the 2007 promotion match but couldn't make the 2015 promotion match, that was heartbreaking. I spent great times on the Tote end Eastville, usually watching City win, I never saw City ever lose at Eastville in all of the games I ever attended. I now live near Dorchester and have a season ticket in the Dolman, where I sit with old schoolmates that I have known for over 50 years. I usually travel up by train. So that's a potted history of my BCFC involvement.
Glad you finally got in mate. See, what do I know? I didn't realise that Massive also lives down that way!!
I love the train mate. Cheap as chips. Gets me into Temple Meads at 11:30am, last train leaves Temple Meads at 8:50pm and gets me back at 10:40pm. Gives me plenty of drinking time walking through Bedminster before and after the game and still with time to have a bite to eat as well. The train home can be fun loads of groups of women who have been on lash all day shopping in Bristol or Bath.
Well even though I am an OAP, he has been my solace during lockdown, re reading from number 1 to 18 of the first series and ploughing my way through the second series 1 to 146 + annuals and graphic novels.
Good for you. I was a big Silver Surfer fan back in the day along with buying lots of DC and Marvel comics
I was into Thor and Spiderman from Marvel and Green Lantern from DC. But the Silver Surfer was always my favourite and the only collection that I have kept, all bagged and boarded, my missus calls me Sheldon Cooper.
Spiderman and early Batman for me along with the SS. I also quite liked the Green Lantern and the Flash too.
Welcome Jiffie! I think this is the best forum. I am also on OTIB, which is much busier, but I find it a bit poisonous, with city fans knocking virtual lumps out of each other - especially when we lose a game! ... and JA606, which is very much like the old BBC 606 board in appearance. I find that one quite good for getting views from fans of other clubs, but the Bristol City JA606 board itself is virtually dead! This forum is definitely my preferred one. I check in on here several times per day, whereas I’ve hardly been over to the others since the season stopped.
OTIB is run by the gestapo and the audience is a lot younger. This forum has much less traffic but it is frequented by older fans. Must say it has a wide and diverse mindset on here.
I was on OTIB for many many years and made a conscious decision to just abandon it. I got fed up with the lack of reasoned debate and the abuse from several posters who were allowed to get away with it. I am opinionated but I am always more than happy to debate honestly and admit if I am wrong. There is nothing wrong with people having a different view on anything, but all I want is reasoned debate without any abuse. But and I apologise if anybody is on this site, the FaceBook page 'Bristol City till I die' is by far the worst of all inhabited by loads of belters.
yep it was very much my way or the highway over there by the Mods many many good posters have deserted OTIB over the years due to this.
