    Although I wish it wasn't so, these kind of decisions nowadays are for the clubs own benefit. The deal will be tied to a ten year deal which means £80-100 million overall.

    If it makes the club financially stronger then fine. It will always be St. James' Park to the fans and that's what counts.

    Please, no more doom mongering. We're past that now.

    That's a bit deluded... How can it be for the benefit of the club? It brings in no extra money as he is sponsoring himself...

    It's SportsDirect Arena at the minute, but the plan is to sell the naming rights, as well as shirt sponsorship as NR ends this year, in some sort of double swoop to another company before the end of the season.


    I say that's the plan, but god knows. He might just decide to keep it as SportsDirect Arena... =/

    We should find out in the next few weeks as Llambias says he wants a deal signed up by December as Puma need to be kept in the loop for our new merchandise next season!!

    I think the whole concept would be financially understandable if it wasn't Ashley sponsoring himself. If he wants to plough money into the club, good, but this is no trade-off... as it is we gain nothing. The @ sponsorship gimic failed, so I fail to comprehend why a firm would find this more appealing... It was absolutely not necessary for him to take this step, and will not be perceived well by fans.

    As far as I'm aware he cannot change the name of st.james park, as that is what the land the stadium is built on, is called

    The land (st.james park ) i believe still belongs to the freemen of the city (unless they have sold out aswell)

    rumours of Trashley buying the road leading up to st.James and re-naming it sportsdirect boulevard is wide of the mark

    Haha Oh no... would I keep my achievement and level-up points?! Afterall, this forum is literally more important to me than breathing... oh wait....

    Still, it is kind of annoying having lots of the same thread, and I apologise to any mod who sees this as a replication... I personally blame the tiny buttons of android phones, my genetically disadvanaged chubby fingers and, of course, Nick Clegg and the bankers!

    It's a form of teasing commentary... We go for months, do well and spontaneously he has a "tick" which forces sportsdirect out of his mouth and into our lives in another entirely unpredictable way that is explicitly detrimental or provoking to our support...
    We all know he couldn't physically destroy the club unless he got hold of a nuclear weapon... but even then three headed Shola's would rise from the wreckage to turn-out...

    Still, nice Aristotle here has come by to affect us with his relentless logic... Cheers mate.
