shrews travel to doncaster saturday on the back of a creditable draw at brentford. in the process we have lost the services of winnall through injury, hamstring? so we have to hope our marv and el tel will cut the mustard. i think they will. but will tom get back as the bench, one wonders. last night donny were taken apart 1-3 by preston , so bet aj365 has hopes of another away point or even a loggerheads day. remember we had 60% of possession last night and that rare quality for strikers, er chances going begging! come on shrews 3 points for graham , the young lad is 65 on friday and could do with a change of birthday present. there are only so many socks you can wear! results yeovil 2 don 1 colchester 1 don 2 sheff utd 0 don 0 don 1 steve 1 don 1 preston 3 league p9 w4 d 1 L4 f12 a9 gd 3 p14 pos 11th top scorers king 4 m/f sodje 4 f wroe 4 m/f c/sherriff came on as sub last night and wroe warmed the bench. good luck shrews, happy b. gt. and floreat salopia!!
I'm off to this one after missing the game last night in any form, I couldn't even listen to it on the radio! Doncaster 1-1 Shrewsbury (GORNELL WILL SCORE! HE HAS TO! I'VE PREDICTED HIM TO SCORE IN EVERY GAME!) attendance 5,625
Marv missed a couple of easy chances last night and we had good possession all evening too but failed to get a win, we are 1/3 of the way through the season with only two wins under our belt and one of them against a very poor Coventry side, if this carries on we will only accrue 10 wins all season, not a very good prospect.Doncaster are having a very up and down season also. and are not a dissimilar side to ours. but with injuries lacking of form and low confidence i think Donny will just shave it Doncaster.....1 Shrewsbury....0 Aaron Jones 5,600
Shrews 2 - Donny 0. Think Collins will stay in defence and another clean sheet on the way! Gornell (2) attendance 5,486
Have you been drinking? Our season will be 46 games long, not 30, so we're not even 1/4 of the way through never mind 1/3. And how you get to 10 wins from the current 2 is a mystery (especially if you think we're 1/3 of the way through). We'd make 9 at the present rate (which would be relegation unless we drew almost every other game!). We should keep in mind that we've played 6 of the top 8 (or 7 of the top 10). I don't think 10 points is too bad as we find our feet and I'm confident the squad will be good enough to get plenty more wins as the season goes on.
Well said Shrewdchemic! We have had some problems in the team but GT is always learns quickly from defeat and we should put our trust in him to establish ourselves in this much tougher league.
I have always trusted GT in his choice of players and 100% behind him, i just think he isnt getting any help from boardroom level!!
Another tough game tomorrow (aren't they all?). Would be happy with another point but the sooner we get an away win, the better.
Just back. Same old same old. Gift an early goal to the opposition and fail to make the most of a few chances to equalise. The best of those fell to Morgan who was wearing his 3 cornered hat at the time and consequently headed wide. In truth 2 fairly ordinary sides and Shrewsbury bossed the second half but failed to deliver enough crosses of decent quality. In fact Hulme had a very good chance to make it 2-0. Easily MOM was Summerfield who hardly gave the ball away until tiring very late on. Good to be in a new stadium where the PA system can be heard!!!!
Agree with this they were a poor side one we should taking advantage of but yet again can't see where the goals will come from. Nice ground, friendly stewards warm dry day but no points!
always going to be a tough ground to get a result, but worrying where any goals are going to come from, Marvin is either having a big confidence crisis or he aint good enough for this level of football, personally i thinks its the later
Morgan definitely had an off day. Three very presentable chances for him, one of which was a free header from all of 6 yards, and he was also played through once in each half - first half was denied by a good tackle after dallying for too long on the ball, and in the second shot into the side netting when he'd have done better to pull it back. Overall we were value for a point at least, although Hume did have a golden opportunity which he bizarrely chose to take on early as an awkward volley and missed, but that was essentially it for their threat. The penalty looked soft to me, I thought Richards got the ball, but it was a clumsy tackle which he didn't have to make. Morgan was constantly being fouled (never given, of course) and even conceded a free kick for outmuscling their defender! Taylor looked lively in the second half; creating most of our best chances as well as having our only attempt on goal. Parry was a lot more comfortable up front than Wright. Summerfield and Collins stood out as our best players by some distance. For them, Cotterill and their number 6 were their only good players, although they did pass the ball well in fairness. Frustrating at best. For Walsall, I'd like to see Turner play a 4-2-3-1: -------------------Weale --Grandison-----Collins-Jones-----------Purdie ------------Richards-Summerfield --Taylor----------Wildig-------------Parry ----------------Morgan Wildig passed the ball around nicely against Donny but offered little defensive protection, so an extra man in the middle is imperative.
Intricacies like that are lost on me! Hopefully we'll have a bit more consistency in the formation than yesterday - initially it was Morgan and Gornell up front, then Wright, then Parry, then Parry and Taylor went out wide with Hall playing off Morgan THEN Doble came on with Morgan and Taylor and Parry switched wings!
GT says he is fed up of answering questions about whether someone is coming in but this striker situation is now getting critical if we are not to be drawn into a relegation battle. Glad to hear Taylor did well as we need some pace on the wings to get in behind the opposing back four.
To an extent I disagree about Taylor doing well. He did his usual headless chicken bit with the occasional fleeting bout of sanity. His free header although from some distance was powder puff. I would have prefered to see Doble come on in place of Gornell. Until that time the front two had stretched the Donny defence and Morgan produced one of the few decent crosses in the game which Gornell headed wide having come too far across the near post.
