Officially confirmed on SAFC.com! By clips I've seen of him he could well be a very decent squad player to have. And then there's the financial benefits from South Korea, generally raising our profile over there. Could well be a shrewd move by Bruce. Next up Gardner!
Ji Dong-won is officially a Sunderland player after signing a three-year contract on Wearside. The 20-year-old striker, who has scored six goals in 11 appearances for his native South Korea, joins from K-League side Chunnam Dragons for an undisclosed fee. Dong-won scored four goals at the 2011 Asian Cup, marking him out of one of Asia's hottest properties. South Korea eventually lost in the semi-finals on penalties to Japan, finishing third in the tournament overall. Dong-won, who stands at almost 6'2", began his career at Gwangyang Jecheol High School before a short spell with Reading during the 2007-08 season. The frontman joined Chunnam is 2010 and scored 16 goals in 44 appearances for the Dragons, who play in the Korean city of Gwangyang.
Gonna be a fascinating one to watch this one. He could be brilliant, he could be average, he could be pigeon ****. He'll be something, i'm confident of that...
What I like about him is he attacks the ball for headers, came on as a sub for Korea under 23's and scored couple of headers in two minutes against iran.
