Sunderland are set to sign South Korea international Ji Dong-won. According to reports in the Far East, Chunnam Dragons have reached an agreement with Sunderland for the 20 year-old and he could be making his last K-League appearance on June 26. The disclosed transfer fee is in the region of £625,000 to £800,000 and Ji is understood to have come to terms with a three-year deal worth £1.5 million. "I hope to survive in the English Premier League as long as I can play like Park Ji-sung and I also want to be the ace of the team like Lee Chung-yong," an excited Ji was quoted as saying on The Korea Times. The talented forward is a product of Chunnam's youth program and scored eight goals in 26 matches in his debut season last year. The K-League outfit are disappointed at losing their starlet but admitted they had little choice but to let him go. "It is a great loss for us to lose him after having him only for one season and after spending many years to train him," a club spokesperson said. "If he returns to the K-League, he must return to the Chunnam Dragons." Ji will join Sunderland's pre-season camp early next month and is expected to feature in the club's friendly games before the new campaign starts. Cheap, the money owed to us from Chopras transfer, will pay his wages, So I might get to see him in the German friendlys.
He isn't the same lad who was at Reading was he? Hope he has improved if he was, to be fair if it is he was only young but if Reading did'nt want him then & we are after he i hope he has been on Creatine Burgers & raw horse's since
From youtube he seems a handful, but then on youtube I'd look like a world class player. He looks pacy and just the thing to throw on in the last 15 minutes against tiring defenders and at the price we've paid it doesn't seem like a gamble.
Think it may be the same one. Another fairly unknown, but if not given a chance we will never know. I'm all for this kind of signing, to get some numbers in, and hopefully shine, and that will have an impact and spread the SAFC name.
Well i haven't seen anything of him recently but im at work at minute & can only access a few websites, ill have a look at youtube to see what he like but if he turns out to even be decent then you cant argue with the price we are paying. I've always thought the koreans have looked ok in World Cup's & they seem to run forever 7 give their all, hipefully he will be the same.
Didn't realise they were also looking at him.... Sunderland have entered the race for South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won. The 20-year-old, watched by Newcastle last month, will cost around £1 million from his club Chunnam Dragons. Dong-Won has scored six goals in 11 games for his country and spent a short spell on trial with Reading two years ago. I like the sound of an ambitious and talented Korean with everything to prove. We know they can play, if the last 2 World Cup's are anything to go by.
He`s tall as well, something we have been missing, might be useful at set pieces, if we ever learn any.
