What the hell is going on?

Can't help but have the feeling that big news will break in the not too distant future. Mittal takeover? Warnock resignation?

I'm guessing it might be one or the other.

I feel really sorry for NW (and us long suffering fans.) To have finally got up with a club that should have money to match it's ambition, and then to find that the owners don't want to spend 1 pound on a player, let alone 1 million.....

So, if some of players are demanding £50k/£60k a week, or their clubs are demanding £5M for a player worth £1.5M then the board - whether it be controlled by Ecclestone, Mittal or Bonnie Langford - should just dig deep and spend.

Give a few players enormous contracts and the regular starters in the team will want parity within a year - especially if the player on the big bucks doesn't perform.

It would be great for a year and then disaster.

Eamon, you certainly know how to keep our feet on the ground! We're all just dreaming about what's around the corner, and you come and slap us back down to earth - thanks for remaining calm whilst the rest of us are losing our heads (and minds)

On the contrary, now IS the time to be very concerned. There's staying calm and then there's sticking your head in the sand. Its glaringly obvious, as it was when Briatore last controlled things, that all's not right at the Club and consequently it may well all go tits up as it did under Il Duce's last dictatorship.

I'm afraid I'm not with you there goldcoast. We need a lot of quality additions to this squad or we are going to be utterly destroyed next season. Mark my words.

I wonder whether there is something to all the chat about Darren Ambrose. Do we need two more right wings (in an already fairly decent midfield) when the money could be better spent elsewhere. He'd be cheaper than Routledge too. Given how long this has dragged, I can see Wayne staying at Newcastle.

Ok, it seems that people have seen his blog and automatically think it's the clubs fault. May I remind people that Rangers claimed a deal had been done with Newcastle, not Routledge. That doesn't mean it was done and dusted. But considering that Routledge is continuing to claim that he wants to stay at Newcastle, maybe Warnock has changed his mind. Maybe Warnock feels that he doesn't want Routledge anymore considering he gave him a chance to come back to our club, when he'd already chosen to leave us and go to Newcastle where it didn't work out for him, yet having been given another chance with us he still turns around and says up yours.

So I'm sorry, but people can bleat on about it being the clubs fault, but I couldn't care less about Routledge. I'd rather Ambrose as not only is he a play maker but also a dead ball expert. He also has proved to be an extremely loyal player to the club he is with. A far better option than someone who has failed at every club he's been at in the Premiership and doesn't understand the meaning of the word loyalty. He also can't be very bright to continuously state he wants to stay at a club who have already made it clear they don't want him.

The lack of movement in the x-fer market wasnt concerning until I read that it could be due to Warnock leaving the club :( Im hoping its due to the Mittals taking over and the goons arent prepared to spend at all until its decided one way or another.
Either way far from the perfect start back in the prem

Fair point well made LoneRanger, particularly the second paragraph. I think people see this Routledge scenario and add it to the board-room changes, lack of signings, season ticket prices etc and smell a rat. Add to that Flavio's performance when he last held the reigns and it does become quite obvious that all's not well at Rangers. I don't think its one particular thing, but a culmination of things and previous form.

Its all similar to last year really. I'm not too disheartened yet.

I'd be concerned if a) Briatore was back in the driving seat and b) Warnock was unhappy.

Unless I've missed something, Briatore's position hasn't changed from where it was last season, i.e. not involved. If he starts poking his nose in, the first we'd know would be point b) above I'm sure

I think you're reading too much into it. Could just be that Warnock has gone off the idea of signing Routledge, for any of the reasons given above.

If I said, Warnock is quitting the club to go and bang Imogen Thomas now that Giggs has left her, the only signings we are making are from the Rangers Tigers Downs syndrome team and that Mittal is actually an alien from another planet, it doesn't make it true. But you can bloody well bet that some on here would start posts saying the clubs falling apart based on what I'd said. The papers print a load of bollocks and yet some people lap it up with an extra large spoon.

Come on guys, get some gumption.

I think we're all in agreement that we aren't in the position we'd hopped we'd be in now, ie buying some quality players and backing up the bookies odds of us staying up. But as I've stated before, if Mittal is making moves in the background to buy the club, which of course would be fantastic, it means in the mean time we have to put up with not buying anyone of any quality. All the anger at Ecclestone and Briattore is also unfounded at the moment. Yes they are unpleasant little fellows, but who in their right mind would start making conversions on their house and fully redecorating the day before selling their house. You just wouldn't do it and neither will they, it wouldn't make sense.

But until the sale does or doesn't go through, there are going to be uncertain times for the club, players and fans. That doesn't mean the club has gone to pot, just that things are being done behind the scenes and as the club has pointed out this morning, don't believe a thing until you see it on the official site.

And if you are stupid enough to read and believe the crap, well I've got a flying pig I can sell you.

And we thought last close season was quiet! It is the middle of June and the highlights so far are our ageing 2nd string goalkeeper and our reliable but not-exactly-Prem-material Icelandic striker signing contract extensions. Oh, and a repeat of last summer's West Country pre-season (cream teas anyone?). I'm now desperately hoping that there is really about to be movement in the boardroom battle but what if that's not actually going to happen? What if Ecclestone is not so financially astute as we all assume, stubbornly refuses to sell for less than $100m but the existing shareholders between them are not willing to put up the cash to bring the squad up to a reasonable standard. Given the complete lack of any news I'm beginning to think that is a real possibility and the coming season could be a disaster. I know, I know! It's still early days and much could happen but I certainly would not be surprised if the next announcement from the club was NW's resignation.

I'm not saying Ambrose is the ideal candidate, but he's a Warnock player and we saw what he did the Derry and Hill last year. If he could get the same out of Ambrose we'd be on to a winner.
