Sunderland visit Doncaster Rovers in League One Last time out Sunderland beat Shrewsbury and Doncaster drew with Gillingham. Sunderland travel to the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday looking to make it four wins in a row. The Black Cats moved up to third place in the table with a game in hand after a hard fought victory at the New Meadow. Jack Ross will be without Watmore, Wyke, Loovens and Hume through injury, Oviedo and Power are both suspended. Josh Maja is expected to start despite his ankle injury. Former SAFC academy player Cliff Byrne returns to the Stadium of Light as assistant manager to Grant McCann. Doncaster Rovers are flying high in the top 6 and will be hoping to be a lot more clinical in front of goal against Sunderland. They had 32 shots (13 on target) on Saturday, while Gillingham only had 3 shots on goal but somehow scored from all of them. Jack Ross: “Nothing fresh, no other players will be returning" “Josh Maja didn’t train today but that was precautionary because of the ankle injury he has been complaining about." “Glenn Loovens will train on Thursday, he isn’t far away but will join in with full training then so won’t be in contention for tomorrow’s game.” "Everything I’ve seen of Grant and his team, has been a team that tries to go and play football. I think the stadium and the environment will be one that we will enjoy tomorrow as well. I expect a difficult game against a team that to be where they are after 13 games, they can only be a good side." Grant McCann: "They'll have one player on more money than my whole team - I know that for a fact, They're a huge club for this division." "They should be running away with the league really, with the budget they've got." "This season, I think generally League One is more of a level playing field - apart from Sunderland and Barnsley" "Barnsley have a squad that they've put together for about £10m and their XI that they put out every week is worth about that. It's a Championship team, so those two are head and shoulders above everybody financially." Match Appointments: Referee: JEREMY SIMPSON Assistants: Nick Hopton and James Wilson Fourth Official: Simon Mather Team Line ups Sunderland: McLaughlin, Flanagan, Baldwin, Matthews, James, Cattermole, Honeyman, Maguire, Maja, Sinclair, Gooch Substitutes: Ruiter, Ozturk, McGeady, McGeouch, O’Nien, Mumba, Kimpioka. Injured: Watmore, Wyke, Hume, Love, Loovens, Robson Suspended: Oviedo, Power Doncaster Rovers: Marosi, Mason, Blair, Butler, Andrew, Anderson, Whiteman, Kane, Coppinger, Marquis, Wilks Substitutes: Lawlor, Crawford, Anderson, Beestin, Taylor, May, Horton Injured: Rowe Betting Odds: H 13/10 A 2/1 D 12/5 My two pence: Doncaster have some decent strikers in Coppinger and Marquis but as they showed on Saturday their defence is not the best. The confidence is growing, even when things start badly we keep at it and don’t give up. My guess is a 3-2 away win Ha’way the Lads
Bit misleading to say that we've got one player on more money than his whole side so we should be pissing the league, presumably he's referring to Catts or Oviedo who are both on high wages but that doesn't mean the rest of the team is. If we do get promoted it'd be a stretch to say we'd bought our way to success, we've been canny with our signings.
Yeah - I just copied that from the BBC. They spouted all the usual rubbish about our finances and the massive parachute payments etc.
I mean as far as I know we have got one of the biggest budgets in the league but we're not exactly doing a Man City, if anything we've been able to sign a better class of player because of the size of the club not because we're minted.
I look at the likes of Power and think you’re right, could have been playing in the championship with Wigan but came to us instead.
Yeah quite a few of them have said along the same lines, my understanding is that money is tighter than a ducks backside so I don't think that high wages would be why they've all been keen to sign.
You have parachute payments both for this season and next. You have sold players for mega millions in comparison to the normal sale prices in league one and you have gates in the region of 30,000 at home, Are you seriously saying that, in comparison to other clubs in league one, money is tighter than a ducks arse? Your budget must be THE BIGGEST by a country mile in league one never mind "one of the biggest". Financially you should be doing a Man City but football is never wholely or soley about how much cash somebody has. It helps but isn't the whole story. I did say to you that league one isn't a walk over for anyone previously and what you have come to see in some matches is it isn't always as you would expect. I do think everyone in this league expects Sunderland to be in a league higher next season even if you will have to maintain your form for all of it and not take it for granted. Anyone noticed Accrington? They have gates on average of around 2000 and yet are in a playoff position right now. They may not stay there for all of the season but it's that sort of club that proves you can't just buy a promotion. Doncaster are a physical side who also have a tendancy to lay down on the grass a lot if they are getting a point off somebody. They go down faster than a Pompey lady on a Friday night out. Marquis is a decent player who you need to watch closely but the rest are average in my opinion. Keep winning because I keep predicting you will in our boards prediction league and it gets me points as well.
I'm going off how we've signed players like Baldwin who was unwanted by Peterborough and is one of our best players. A lot of our other players are from the youth team and won't be on much. We also picked up a fair few freebies. Doesn't really sound like a super wealthy team to me. The money raised from sales hasn't gone in players it has vanished into Short's pocket, the whole point of the new regime was to scrimp and save and that's what they've done.
There is a wisdom given your record over the last couple of seasons to not throwing money around like it's going out of fashion. Other clubs have gone right down the pan previously by trying to buy anything in boots that moves to get back to previous status. They have gone into Administration in the end by having players who are on stupid long term contracts who don't give a **** about the club and therefore don't care where it ends up. At least that won't happen to you. But, you still can't tell me that the wages your club offers, never mind the status of the club, isn't going to tempt players who are pretty decent for this league into signing for you rather than Walsall for example or even ourselves. Trouble is very few outside a club will know what wages are paid to any player. Rightly so I guess but it is bound to encourage people to speculate in some cases it's more than most clubs could offer. I doubt you will convince anyone outside of Sunderland that your budget isn't many times bigger than everyone else's. You play us soon so that should help your points tally the way we are currently.
Cheers RTB. As ever, be happy with an away point delighted with a win. May come a bit too soon after Saturday with the squad a bit thin due to injuries and suspensions but hopefully keep the run going. @sensiblegreeny - yeah, money is v tight here. We had horrendously high running costs as well as massive debt that the new owner managed to negotiate away with the old owner but as has been said parachute is part of that. New owners have streamlined a lot but still have huge financial commitments to legacy contracts of players we’ve not shifted so it’s not so clear cut that we are swimming in cash and buying success.
Safc site it costs £10 if you are in the UK. It has been good in the past. There is no commentary or action replays and it's only one camera angle.
I've gone over 2.5 goals. Both teams like to score and conceed. Meeting smug soon. In Donny now. Come on!!!!! Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
