Games come thick and fast at this time of the season and on the road again we are on Tuesday night. Having used the M6, M61, M62, M18, M180 on Saturday we will on the same roads apart from the M180 to Doncaster. Newly relegated Rovers started with a win at Yeovil followed by a home defeat to Port Vale, a failed takeover bid from a boy band member of one erection failed and it seems things are not as rosy as they were at the Keepmoat. They have not made any stellar signings and still have Paul Dickov as manager so it would suggest consolidation rather than another last day promotion. Apart from a couple of knocks probably will be the same side for the Whites but can Humphrys put in another performance like he did on Saturday? Will be there so expect my usual totally unbiased report on Wednesday
Point won or two dropped hard to call, Jones' inability to catch the ball all night cost Preston three points when he flapped at a cross in the 94th minute from the scramble that followed Nathan Tyson bundled the ball home to level the score. To be fair to Doncaster they deserved something from the match having dominated for a large swathe of the game, they also had the standout player in Coppinger. A bright start by both sides with Garner trying his luck from about 80 yards and a Wright thunderbolt which went just over. The game then reduced intensity and became like a pre season friendly, until Coppinger decided to take on North End. Running at the defenders he caused all sorts of danger, one run ended with a cross cum shot whizzing narrowly across the face of the goal. A Doncaster free kick 40 yards out nearly caught Jones off guard, scrambling the ball too safety. There was little of note until North End took the lead when Doncaster failed to clear a corner and Humphreys blasted home from 20 yards. North End looked to be heading for three points until Tyson scored. Doncaster Rovers 1 Preston North End 1 Att 6513
It would seem that NE were guilty of a lack of concentration over a disputed throw in. The old adage 'play to the whistle' is apt here. A shame eally because the defence played well to restrict Coppinger and co to a few strikes on goal. NE had more strikes on goal. Already the critics are screaming for blood in the LEP. They need reminding that Finney, The Doc, Cowboy Cunningham, Baxter and co have long retired, and football is an industry now with bigger players cornering the market of talent.
