For all the people that said Donaldson would go to a big club and we had no chance. I think we could have got him if we wanted to
I might be lambasted for this and will probably be made to eat my hat but I am going to say something controversial now. I don't rate him. I've got reasons to say this. I saw him when he played for Hibs and he was frankly average in a piss poor league (don't forget John Sutton is now Hearts star striker and they're better than Hibs). Of course he had a blinding season for Crewe but I will be interested to see how the step up goes. One rubbish season plus one great season does not a great player make. I'll have some salt on my hat please.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on. I would have liked to have seen him at Wycombe as he's a powerful forward something I don't think we possess at the minute .
I dont think we should be too worried about missing out on him. I think if we hadnt got Benyon and sat back whilst the likes of Donaldson,Mcgliesh and Cureton sign for other clubs then maybe there would be cause for concern. I do rate Donaldson, he was very effective for Crewe - dont listen to Chairboyjock - all that irn bru and fresh air is clouding his thinking. I digress....... Benyon and Rendell will be a good partnership. IWWT!
hopefully benyon and rendell will hit it off and bang the goals in and you never know beever might get more goals like his play deserves.
I'd still like to see beavon played as an attacking mid just behind two strikers, kinda like how donnelly is played. As regards Donaldson, buying him now with 5 other strikers on our books already would be a commodity and other issues need to be addressed in the team.
No chance you'd have got him with Brentford sniffing around. They've got some mean cash to spend, Chairman pumps 1 Mil in every season to keep the club on the up. I doubt he'll set L1 alight anyway.
