Thought I'd try and gauge opinion on here of the coming months. As an exile I only had other boards to gauge opinion of the mood amongst fans. When this investment or any investment goes through, it would appear that SD will be staying on in some capacity. Given some of the things I had read on other boards there appears to be a large section of our support that either want him out and use every bit of negative press to increase their claims. I in no way think he is perfect, as I have said before his openness has been a breath of fresh air but sometimes he gets a bit carried away, but he appears to have the clubs best interests at heart. I don't begrudge him making money if he sells some or all of his shares, after all he is a business man. My question is when he gets the investment will he be able to stay in some capacity or has it gone to far? Sorry for the rambling post
Keep him. Genuinely has our interest at heart IMO. Learn from Shorts mistakes of having non football people in charge and ****ing it up
Unfortunately, the people of Sunderland and the wider areas are naturally pessimistic bastards. Even non football related positive Sunderland related news gets turned into a negative by the moaners. If Sunderland was located further south I doubt these issues would be magnified as much. IMO of course
I like SD, he's left Twitter now so we should just hear from him thru official channels. Embarrassed by some of our fans constantly tweeting to him.
I like him. I believe he actually gets the ethos of the club and supporters. There's been many conspiracy theories by the usual suspects - but non substantiated. Pity he didn't have a few more bob to carry the club forward himself.
Aye, I was looking at some tweets the other night. People were actually demanding answers FFS. It's actually the closest I've ever been to cringing at pixels on a screen. Absolutely embarrassing.
He failed to get Eastleigh into the Football League. If he were a manager how many, who want to keep him running the whole club, would want him as a manager with that record.
I've just seen a couple of the tweets he put out. I guess he won't be going to away games with the fans now or doing talk ins at supporters branches
Given ross, hill and coton royally fecked up last season and this season also is looking like a dud it would appear that donald hasnt done what you attribute to him Who are these football people that you talk about. Is levy at spurs an ex football man before he moved to spurs? Bain for all his faults held a very senior position at rangers and was very successful at tel Aviv maccabi before short hired. He was more of a 'football man' than most ceo's in the premier league. Yet he was atrocious. People come out with that awful guff 'oh he gets us'...ye gods what bilge. Gets us being , ' big club, great fans, proud history, should be doing better' etc etc. Shallow platitudes in other words. Short was guilty of letting his managers manage and supporting them financially. If he interfered he cops it, if he didnt he is also the devil incarnate. The fabled football man is up there with the unicorn and loch nest monster.
I can only go from when he went to me mam and dads and sat and chatted about football. He's also stayed in touch and regularly asked how me mam is doing. I genuinely think he has the best interests of the club at heart, he’s a football fan and like all of us football fans that means he sometimes gets carried away and maybe says too much. Some of the stuff he spoke about, if true, it’s no wonder we were haemorrhaging money. He said when he was talking to Ellis Short, Short couldn’t get his head around why he’d failed at running a football club when all of his other businesses were successful. He’d mentioned his castle in Scotland and how well run that was. SD said he’d asked Short who ran his castle and Short had said people experienced in hospitality. SD said to Short well there is your answer. He joked about getting the club back on a financial even keel and once that was done how he’d love it if Short pumped the money in again that he’d wasted and let him run the club. So potentially similar to what he’s trying to do now with different investors. I can’t emphasise enough that if he wilfully damaged my/our football club then I’d never forgive him (despite once being accused that I’d still back him if he changed our strips to black and white ) and neither would me dad if he was still here, but until the time comes when that’s proven he gets a huge benefit of the doubt from me.
Happy for him to stay in some capacity. He's come in, stabslied the club and got the fans back involved. It's only since the takeover that people are seeing conspiracy theories and trying to hoist blame on him.
Happy for him to stay on, as long as it doesn't stop a deal with the Dell boys. I like the bloke, and i think he has genuine interest in the club. He doesn't help himself at times, but he also has come out with things that blow stories away before they snowball. He can't really do that with this deal, as he is obliged to keep quiet. The ALS RR reports were a massive cock up by someone. Who it was i don't know, but that really hasn't helped. I have a feeling he will be squeezed out in this deal, but that's just total guesswork
I quite like the bloke, and if he can generate investment from these American chaps, fantastic. However, I do think he need to bring in someone to oversee the football side of things Our recruitment has been pretty poor of late. I'm holding my breath about this managerial appointment Hope I'm wrong but don't have any faith in them to bring in the right kind of manager who can play good football and unite the fanbase. Club needs a relaunch and if he appoints someone like Parkinson he's seriously miss judged the situation
@stewartdonald3 @SunderlandAFC fans i have always tried to communicate on social media & help fans but I think the negatives now outweigh the positives. I temporarily took a break but I will now do so permanently. I will just communicate via club channels which I think is what most want ⚪️
I think he has been good for the club but he has made mistakes like keeping Ross after the playoffs! He's a bit to vocal on social media and ended up getting abuse from so called fans! I'm torn between keeping him on or starting a fresh with the new so called owners
