Don’t want Powell back under any circumstances

Rick Everitt is busy across social media this morning, puffing his somewhat bloated chest out needlessly bitching about Robinson and over- promoting Powell for a return. More Fake News.

We all know that Powell’s return would tickle the tummies of some of our pulblic sector supplicant, lefty loving, never had a real job fans ...we can jump on the PC Wagon again zzzzz and send Sir Chris down to collect more lovely awards from Labour Greenwich Council.

BUT...

Let’s not forget that Powell presided over a relegation last time and many normal fans had turned against him by the time of the Sheff Utd game. His style of football towards the end was boring, predictable and generally dreadful and the lovely tunnel jumps & turning up at the opening of an envelope couldn’t disguise that.

It would be a hugely retrograde and backward step if this Club got Powell back as manager, even if it would send a few of our gormless dribbling fans into ecstasy.

 

I don't expect ti to happen, but I'd be OK with him back as long as he lets the players do the tunnel jumps.

 

It would turn Charlton into a soap opera again,

Let’s just stick to the football next season, not Fanny & Co melting in his arms.

he never presided over a relegation. he left us in the bottom 3 with 5 games in hand. then riga using the same players (minus network) lead us to safety. we were never going to go down with CP's players.

 

Would have done, he left us deep in the sh1te.

People forget that.

Remember some of his tactical master stokes - Bradley Pritchard in a Championship side ...

 

My wider point is that Muir is a chance for a fresh start and Powell is anything but.

Everitt’s “I understand” line is the oldest trick in the book.

I understand the Aussies want Mourinho ...doesn’t make it true.

 

First I'd like to repeat what others have already said - Chris Powell did not preside over a relegation.
He did engineer a 101 point season in League One which had Charlton returning to the 2nd tier as Champions.
His team did win 30 of 46 league games that season and only lost 5 times.

But that is in the past.

My belief is if we continue to look backwards, we will never go forwards.
Chris Powell is just beginning a new job at Southend. I hope he is happy there. It will be interesting to see how Southend get on next season compared to ourselves.
Personally I would not mind seeing CP return to us, but we don't need to get him back.

Similarly we don't need Alan Curbishley or any other former manager to return as manager again.
I would like to see Curbs return to Charlton in some capacity one day, but not as our manager.

Let's honour those who have done good or great things for us in the past; Curbishley, Powell and others.
But our future should be made anew I think. A fresh beginning. Possibilities for new success and maybe new glory in years to come.

So he didn't preside over a relegation then? 4/5 games in hand and 2 points off safety. We don't know what might have been, but you can't say he presided over something that didn't happen until 17 months later

Be honest - you wouldn’t want CP back either

 

I'll believe this when it happens, but sincerely, isn't there anyone else? Do we have to keep going back into the past. It's one thing to remember past glories and enjoy the memories, but to expect to bring CP back and repeat things is a bit unlikely in my opinión. Couldn't we try and build a new team, after all, the players who got us that fabled 101 point promotion are no longer available, Powell is manager of Southend, and times have moved on. If we are going to steal someone else's manager, could we at least do it on the basis of current achievements, not past glories.
I love our memories of CP, but 2nd attempts rarely work - look what happened to Jose Riga.

 

Plus we were only in the bottom three going into the cup game because all five of the teams below us won on the Saturday.

 

Do you remember the capitulation at Sheff Utd in the Q/F and the style of football towards the end under Powell ? Square pegs in round holes all over. I can remember his sides getting jeered off a few times at the Valley.

I honestly don’t see any footballing advantages in going back there.

 

Let the posturing begin. There is no way that I would want Powell back.

 

Truth be told I'm not sure I do. I think he's one of the best in the league and an improvement on KR, but right now there are a lot of good managers available. I imagine a lot of managers will be casting an eye over us and the potential takeover.

 

I reckon you should form a protest group with Ivor, "Powell stay away".

 

And I remember the dreadful 3-0 midweek defeat to Doncaster.

 

The predictability of Dorian Dervite coming on in the last 10 minutes, the 5 man defence getting deeper and deeper and then bam the last minute equaliser

 

Nathan Jones from Luton could do a job for us.
