After a good opening day win at Newport for the Chairboys, itâs the League Cup and a trip to the East End and the New Den, or should it be renamed London Zoo to play with Ian Hollowayâs Lions, who also had a opening day win against basket club Leeds Utd. Our record against Millwall is quite even having played 15 times, won 5 drew 4 lost 6 with our last encounter being a 1-2 loss at Adams Park also in the League Cup, that score line has cropped up on 6 occasions and remains our heaviest defeat 4 times our highest win was 2-0 in season 09/10 when we did the double over them in their promotion winning season, in the season 00/01 Millwall were our opponents on 4 occasions with 2 wins and 2 draws, with a draw at the New Den and a win at Adams Park in the second round of the FA Cup, on our way to the semi-final. There will be no replays this time as its extra time and pens and what a boost it would be for the club to have a much needed cup run and take on Man Utd in the second round at Old Trafford here hoping.
This really is a nothing to lose tie - we don't expect to winso lets give it a go! im expecting gaz to play his full strength team, and hopefully if we can keep it solid we can nick it somehow should be a good match, my first visit to the den as well!
Millwall have got off to a good start but if you have a very strong defence you never know. I remember when we were amateurs in the Isthmian League; we had the best (amateur) half back line in the country and League sides (including Midlesborough who were top of the First Division) found us very hard to break down and it took Midlesborough 180 minutes to get one goal. We could lose 5-0 but, if we can frustrate their forwards, we have some pace in the side, and we have goalscorers, so I'm hopeful we can pull off a surprise here.
This Manager of Millwall. Did he used to manage Blackpool? I seem to recall he got the best out of his team there.
Yes Ron he's a chatacter incidentally the ref is a certain Andy D'Urso there is someone that owes us big time having wrongly chalked off Deano's last minute winner against Norhampton in April
Two seasons ago, Mr D'Urso sent Joel Grant off after 42 minutes of a 2-2 draw at home to Morecambe. The Shrimps equalised in the 90th minute, but Bruno Andrade appeared to have won it for the Chairboys in stoppage time only for the goal to be inexplicably disallowed. The Wycombe fans were incensed and booed the official from the pitch. Last season, Mr D'Urso took charge of two Wycombe games. In August he dismissed Charles Dunne after 49 minutes of a 2-2 draw at Oxford. The U`s scored their equaliser in the 97th minute despite a clear foul in the build-up. The Wycombe fans were incensed and booed the official from the pitch. In April, he took charge of Wycombe's crucial relegation battle at home to Northampton Town. With the score at 1-1 in the 98th minute, Dean Morgan netted for the Blues only for the goal to be controversially disallowed. The officials were booed from the pitch. Skipper Stuart Lewis later revealed in his programme notes that the officials had apologised to the players in the changing room for their 'mistake.' this is copy and pasted from vital, explains very nicely why no one is confident in andy d'urso! I remember him making a real mess of an Exeter game last year that made the news too!
I'ts time D'Urso was made to retire as he embarresses himself in most games he refs and not just for Wycombe. I would be surprised if we win this but it's a cup game so anything can happen, maybe D'Urso will give us a penalty in injury time to make up for the wrongs against us last season Don't think it would happen though however blatent the foul/handball.
After reading the full article on Vital it states that D'urso is now 50 years old, does anyone know what age refs have to retire at?
bit belated report but we played quite well, but just lacked anything going forward... milwall reacted better to being reduced to 10 by keeping possession better and we offered very little then Ingram 6 - cant criticize, didn't have to do anything but pick the ball out Jacobsen 7 - solid in defence, would have liked to see him get forward a bit more but looks an excellent signing pierre 7 - typical aaron performance, dominant at the back and a threat going forward mawson 6 - got caught out a couple of times but cant really criticize - looks superb for a young player jombati 8 - my MOTM , a threat going forward, strong in defence and made a fantastic last ditch tackle - seems a huge improvement on marv and Arnold wood 6 - a lot of effort as ever but didn't really come off for Sammy murphy 7 - looked much better than in preseason, strong in the midfield and keen to get up for set pieces, yet again looks a decent signing kretch 5 - really poor game for him unfortunately, bullied by the milwall midfield PCH 6 - similar to kretch really, fouled a lot in the eyes of most (not mr D'Urso) but again stuff didn't really work for him mccure 5 - pretty anonymous night really hayes 7 - looked a good leader, held the ball up well but still really struggled to create anything in terms of the subs, Holloway seemed ok, bloomfield was a strange decision and had a bad night, and craig got into the right areas but managed to miss the chances Andy D'Urso - overall another pretty poor display from everyones favourite ref - very inconsistent with the petty fouls and a real jobsworth in his manner of refereeing, however to give him some credit e got the big decision correct
