Listening to Radio 5 and they are talking about how underrated Lukaku is.

I'd love us to sign a real, dominant centre forward. Really push the opposition defence around. It is the obvious missing piece to how PP wants to play and I think we would become a very good team.

Clone Quinny. Might take a long time to grow from scratch so we need some sci-fi accelerant to speed it up.

We’re SAFC. We’d get him ripe for the game on Saturday but he’d be 58 by the next week!!!

I used to think Goodman was great. Saw his debut at Wolves when we had two sent off. Grafted like **** all game on his own up front.

Byrne sent off for arguing that a throw-in should have been ours and Armstrong looked like he was sent off for calling the ref a stupid twat for sending off Byrne iirc.

All that sort of player does is encourage hoofball.
There seems to be a fascination with many on here for big players on the assumption they will graft and wont get pushed about.
It harks back to kids comics football to be honest.
Modern game is about high pressing where you need very fit players with good technique and a football brain.

It's nice to pretend we can afford players like that.

Not in this league it isn't

Note: That's in reply to the last sentence as I haven't worked out how to highlight text on my phone

Got to say, I fall between two stools here. While a big centre forward would serve us well, a high pressing game can work at any level. And the two aren't mutually exclusive.
I have a fairly intimate knowledge of one of the leagues slightly below the football league and watch a lot of games/different teams at that level. There is one club with a pair of (for that level) highly celebrated managers and a big budget. They are solely wedded to direct football and have a huge (and very good) centre forward but no Plan B. They aren't having the success that everyone expected this season because they are so easy to work out. Other teams, who can play the high press, but sit deep when deep when needed, and get the ball down and play are flying in comparison.

Well put, Norton Cat and Fulwell Bri. I'm not a Neanderthal in regard to bullying, direct football and agree that it needs to be mixed up with incisive passing football.

I do like PP's tactics of working it down the wings as quick as possible and the switching play across the back three.

I just think that opposition centre halves have it easy sometimes. Also, decent crosses go to waste. Wyke wins a decent amount of headers but doesn't dominate in the way I've seen other CFs do.

It's clear that there's a lack of physicality in the side and I'd like it addressed, it doesn't mean I think we should forget all about playing football. You can do both.

I think given our (apparent) budget anyone expecting "very fit players with good technique and a football brain" to be brought in during this window is going to be disappointed.

I think that's because he's got no one playing off him.

For that to be effective you really need to be playing an old fashioned 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2. I prefer the latter as the wingers add greater width and there are still 3 midfielders behind the ball.

I know what you mean. It's hard for Wyke to get a bit of space when no one is making other runs.

Are we playing 3-4-2-1 at the moment with the 4 including the wingbacks?
