Pick up some gems & win League 1 , pick up a few more here & there over 3 successful Championship seasons . Make it to the Premier League , pick up a few more gems & finish mid table . Sell 2 players & a manager for 30 million in the summer , replace them with a few more cheapish gems . Then finally smash our transfer record twice with Ki & Hernandez . What says it all is these two guys now must begin the task of fighting there way into a starting position , which is no given frankly .... Incredible !!
Too true, how can we drop any of the midfield. Britton, DeGuzman, Michu, Dyer, Routledge have been awesome so far, particularly with two of them being newbies. I would love to see Hernandez in there too, maybe with Michu moving further forward instead of Graham. I think that would cause chaos in most premiership defences. Not saying Graham has let us down, but would like to try it.
I have said in another thread similar that we cant drop players from a winning team just to let the new boys in, they both should start on the bench and wait for their chance to come along.....If its not broke dont change it..
I tend to agree Dai. Routledge doesn't deserve to be dropped and on last week's performance De Guzman is coming good, though he is a loanee - but that probably shouldn't make any difference. Breezy - you've got me thinking....this can't go on forever.
It's what we always wanted isn't it? Quality on the field and more quality sitting on the bench waiting to grab their chances. I so hope we finish above Liverpool. Nothing at all against the club or its supporters but I really want us to eclipse Rodgers and his tunnel-visioned ambition.
De guzman last saturday was quite brilliant. Leon never has a bad game and what can be said about michu and as for both wingers. Ki and Hernandez have some hard work to do to get in the starting 11. On a slightly diferent note i have to pinch myself on a daily basis. to think a few years ago i was excited abot the £30,000 pound signing of paul connor.
I was chuffed when we signed Tommy mutton for 10 grand... It's just amazing to think how far we have come, dream world time and a suprising love for the swans over in Norway as they seem to be everyone's 2nd team which is nice
Seems Swansea live in a " football bubble " within a turbulent club football world . When managers & players come into it , it's all good for team , players & managers ... when they leave ... well it's still good for us in the pocket book , no so much for the players & managers that leave . Must be something in the area water is the best I can come up with !!
It's been an incredible journey the last 5 or 6 years, seemed only like yesterday we moved into the Liberty, when some old Jack bats were wanting the Vetch back! I expect Hernandez to have a significant part in this season, as will Ki! As long as we finish above Liverpool, but then that doesn't look to be too difficult, this season.......
Thought De Guzman has his best game in a Swans shirt on Saturday. But as you say Hernandez and Ki will have to bide their time, as Dai mention "It's not broken so no need to fix it"
They will get their chance and knowing that they are not an automatic choice will get the best out of them when they do play......yet for all we know MH may just start with them...
Went through the Calgary airport , waiting for my son to fly in , for about an hour on Sunday with my new Swansea home top on , with Britton on the back . Two people came up & said " What a great looking shirt , one guy came up to me and said " Swans fan , cool " . A guy with a Sunderland top had a glare at me until he couldn't stand the glare back & turned away Lol , & finally a guy came up to me and asked if I was from Swansea ... I said no , I follow the team fanatically though . Talked a bit of football till finally I asked him who he supported .. he hesitated & said Cardiff !! . Nice guy , but eventually it got to " What is needed is Cardiff to get to the Premier for the good of the area " .... hesitated then continued " I mean Swansea made it but Cardiff have a huge catchment area and " Oh , there's my son , nice to meet you , shook hands & went elsewhere to wait for my sons flight to come in . The Swans are known in Calgary , take it from me .
Sinclair hasn't been playing, Wayne has. We can't just drop Wayne, he has been awesome so far. Like a new player. What I really do find amazing? The fact that HJ and the board havn't let go of our policy of not breaking the bank, but rather finding hidden gems. Yes we've spent £6 million a piece for wo players, but were not actually breaking the bank and going into the red. Never have and never will. What a wonderful club we all support.
I agree, Ash. On current form Sinclair would be on the bench - as he should have been for parts of last season. I don't care that Hernandez was brought in to replace him and he has no right to walk right in. As others have said, Ki and Hernandez will get their chance and will have to wait, record signings or not. On the signings front, yes we've spent a lot of money but are doing so well within our means. Just look at the difference at Southampton, spending so much on just a couple of players. Have they learned nothing? Weren't they in admin a few years back?
MH? Have I missed something or have your friends in the Liberty told you that were replacing Laudrup with Mark Hughes or someone?
How far we've come from the days of Cornforth and Torpey, the knackered old vetch and being chuffed that we'd won the vans trophy! Credit to the chairman, he's been the best signing we've made in the last decade in my opinion (how many clubs fans feel like that - oil money chairmen aside!)
"the knackered old Vetch". Hey,what the hell!!! Mods,I demand you remove this deeply insulting post. ...
