We obviously understand the importance of finishing 4th to get CL football

Not only the money generated but also retaining your key players and helping to add in the quality needed to improve

Yet Wenger hasn't been able to pick the right team or get them motivated/focused for 8 years? Today he chose resting players for a CL tie far beyond us which again once again was the wrong call

Some cup exits have been down to the opposition is simply better (Barca, Man United, Man City) but we've had enough chances to win a cup as a springboard to greater success.

Losing out on the league to the "mega rich" clubs is somewhat of a reasonable argument but crashing to Bradford, Blackburn, Birmingham, Sunderland, Stoke in the past 4 seasons is no excuse!

Whilst we've won nothing Tottenham, Birmingham, Liverpool, Portsmouth have all won a cup and soon to include either Swansea or Bradford

    UNACCEPTABLE!!

Would you rather lose out on CL footy and win the FA/League Cup? While the ideal situation is to not make that choice I think CL holds more importance than FA/League Cup. That being said the squad picked today was far more capable tna their weak showing today, and I know people will just say "who picks the squad?, etc..." but sometimes the players let down the manager and themselves and today was one of those times. Not to say that the manager is faultless, but the blams should not be solely placed on 1 person.

Wenger only cares about CL qualification. There are 2 ways to go about that:

    1) Top 4 finish (and then win the CL playoffs)

    2) Win the CL tournament

Its looking less and less likely that option #1 will pan out for us, so Wenger figured he might as well take a punt on option #2. Which is why he rested Walcott, Podolski, Wilshere et al against the Rovers.

We are in a vicious cycle where we blow the cup competition (Wenger is the only consistent here as the players have all changed) scrape 4th and weaken the squad and start all over again

Spurs failed to qualify for the CL but were still able to (IMO) recruit better than we did

1 is far more likely than 2. Anyone that thinks otherwise has lost it IMO

He doesn't know how to anymore. With everyone obsessing with getting top 4, us being more than anyone else, has created this phenomenon. On paper we have a team that should win something, but it doesn't. The buck lies with Wenger ultimately.

Wenger gets personally rewarded with large bonuses for Arsenal's financial success. Transfer profits and Champions League qualification are therefore by far his main priorities. Cups are great for fans but the prize money is almost negligible.

Can anyone verify this? Would be strange for a FOOTBALL MANAGER to get bonuses for financial success when his goal is to win stuff?

I think Wenger could not live with the idea that CL trophy is beyond us and that domestic cup is the most realistic, if not only realistic trophy. He still thinks that Bayern game is more importantthan Blackburn. So he will lose both. Now it is obvious that we needed to play our strongest team against BR. Bayern game is of secondary importance, simply because chances of winning CL are close to zero.

None of those teams are enviable from an Arsenal point of view.
