What's been quite clear to me is that we are the best of the rest when it comes to the Premier League. The top 6 is the top 6 as it stands lets be honest.

So does the fact we aren't that far off being a really decent side fill you with frustration with what seems a lack of genuine ambition from the 2 croneys and Pardew?

Or doesn't it bother yo because the chances of us breaking into the top 6 seem remote we may as well save some money and stick with what we have?

When Pardew comes out with "We have abandoned our search for a striker" this statement is very strange and suspicious to say the least.

Surely if we have put so much effort into signing Maiga than we must need a striker....no?

If we were willing to spend £10million on Bryan Ruiz on deadline day, why are we now seemingly unwilling to spend this, especially given the fact Demba Ba will be gone for 6 weeks (and who knows, maybe even permanently)?

If £6million was made available for Maiga, then why isn't it available for someone else.

If the reason is because we haven't even bothered to scout anyone else apart from Maiga then that quite frankly is boll*cks. If it's because their is nobody else out their who we think is good enough then that is also very hard to believe.

On Deadline day we put bids in for Liam Ridgewell and Bryan Ruiz. We were also in for Maiga but it didn't happen (apparently). So what has changed?

Do we need a centre back? Yes. We needed one back in August so there no change their.

Do we need a striker? Yes. We needed one in August but somehow this is not the case, after Maiga breaks down? Bullsh*t. Tripe. Lies.

Fact's are we have at least £12 million to spend on the team, given the deadline day events. So NUFC should buy a striker, a centre half and a full back to add to this already decent team. If not another Centre midfielder given the fact Tiote will also be gone for 6 weeks (if not permanently) and Guthrie is far too injury prone to be relied upon.

After all, the only reason we have dropped as many points as we have is due to injuries and a thin squad.

There are no excuses or logical reasons not to. None.

Sort it Laurel and Hardy otherwise the Ashley bashing shall rise again.

    HTL!

I'd rather we become a stable top half team first. One step at a time eh?

We've gone from the Championship to 7th in the Premiership without spending much money - Ashley would be quite justified in thinking 'why start now'.

To get up to the next level will cost a bomb, and Ashley will never spend that. Quite rightly, too.

The abandoning of the striker search was down to our defensive crisis and rightly so. I don't think Ba will leave and therefore shall only be absent around 6 weeks probably less. I believe we have enough, just, to get through that period without him.

The defense on the other hand, put it this way, if either Colo or Willo get injured we're back in the ****.

I recon we'll bring in a full back and a centre back.

And by the way, just because we don't spend money for the sake of spending, doesn't make us less ambitious. We know where we stand as a club and are doing a great job off it financially and on it!

The amount of ££ doesnt bother me. Loan deals will do. The only thing we need is more quality in depth. This shouldn't be an issue giving the ££ available

What have we done so far thats shown a lack of ambition? I'm really struggling to see why everyone thinks that. In the summer how many of our transfers did we know about more than 3-4 days before they happened? Wait until its actually happened first before complaining about it

Why wait? Because if we get to Feb 1st and we havent made any signings then it wont really be a question will it? It'll be a fact.

The noises coming out of the club are dont expect a striker or too many players to turn up in January.

Howver saying that, Big Derek and Fat Ash usually panic deadline day and start sticking in massive bids for random people from nowhere ie Nzogbia, Ruiz.

I think you are jumping the gun by saying we are clearly the 7th best in the league. We are far from proving that.

As for ambition. I think we are showing that we are sensible enough to mix ambition with financial prudence. Others will speculate and take financial risks to try and buy their way further up the league but we won't. I happen to agree with the build slowly and operate within your means approach.

As I said on another thread a few days ago. I think the "we aren't looking for a striker this window" soundbites are intended more to help us get value for money for a striker than a declaration that we no longer need one.

If it happens I'll agree with you. I don't particularly mind if we don't get a striker but there are a couple of areas where we need a new player and if we don't get the right people then i'm not going to be happy.

BUT personally I was reasonably happy with the business we did in the summer so I'm a little (a lot) more optimistic than you and a few notable others seem to be
