Even if the damage for this season has already been done, and no amount of January buying and manager shuffling would really save us this season, and we get relegated... Does the knowledge that we have these owners make relegation less scary knowing that significant investment will likely come?
We're 7 games in. That squad is good enough to be up towards mid table even with a dick head running it. 4 or 5 decent quality signings in the right places could transform things in Jan where there is a bit of quality in depth which the club has lacked for years. We are always over heavily reliant on the likes of Willock, ASM, Wilson.
Not in the slightest.. The financial impact is now irrelevant to us.. They'd just keep the same side add to it and romp the championship
They're quite clearly trying to get the most important aspect resolved first which is the people running the club. Great news. This isn't Sunday league
I think we aren't to far off having a decent competitive team, they just need to sack bruce and they should have done it within minutes of being handed the keys to the club. Slightly disappointed they haven't as yet to be honest. In regards to relegation - I just can't see it on the cards now tbh BUT that's only because I expect 2/3 signings in January - not super stars but improvements. Our front for of: Miggy-Willock-ASM Wilson is ample to push through the season once all fit and firing, just need to get a decent spine behind them with a CM and a CB or two (TBH I'd sack off the entire defense between now and kick off next season and start again bar maybe Manquillo and Lewis as back up) - Okay maybe a back up CF as well but if Wilsons fit I'm happy with that. Dubravka is good enough for the 2/3 seasons so I just can't see it being a realistic scenario where we go down but stranger things have happened. If the worst did happen - I'd be excited - as I'd bet my house we'd set a points record, wins, goals scored, goals conceded records in the champ next year with Mbappe leading the line...
I mean I wouldn't want to go down now we've finally got ourselves into a good position, but to be honest it would only set us back a year. I would not be massively worried by it but it would annoy me slightly. I'm sure the whole country is now hoping we are relegated. Its lovely to be hated.
Yeah, if a knacker like Bruce can safely keep them up 2 seasons in a row, then they clearly aren't relegation certainties. Sack WonkyNose, and let's get going.
Don't think relegation is an option simply because the so called top 6 could move the goalposts while we are away, might sound paranoid but one time I thought the idea the top 6 would block our takeover was fanciful!
I should think with the change of ownership we'll be in a much better position to attract players in Jan. Obviously we are not challenging for anything so there is a level to who we can get but I'm sure we can improve significantly in key areas which will keep us up. It's even not really the money that is exciting as you can only spend so much at once and still got to find the players but the feel good factor is back which makes us a totally different proposition for players looking for a move rather than the constant cloud that was hanging over SJP
It sort of worries me a bit as I actually thought we were in a good position to be relegated and its often the case that it's hard to buy your way out of trouble in January, and by that time the remaining players have lost the plot. Think it is imperative that we get a positive manager in quickly and get us stronger at the back and playing a bit more attractive football to raise player morale and also be in a position where we wont have to put relegation clauses in all the new signings' contracts.
Throwing money at a problem doesn't always work in the short term, and we need a short term fix to ensure we stay up. A lot of the potential signings highlighted in the thread on first player to buy may not be interested in joining us if there is a significant chance of relegation. If they all have relegation-get out clauses as well they tend to be less motivated. I would actually sit down with the players that we have now and tell them that they will get a significant bonus if they can get us on to 20pts, and out of the relegation places, by year end. Which I guess is throwing money at a problem for a short term fix so disregard what I said in my opening paragraph. I agree with you.
