I'll be honest, i can't put my finger on what's changed since the Braintree watershed moment. DC sat down, Marcus and Stevie Yates giving the instructions, DC much softer spoken in interviews, etc. I do have a view on this but wondered if anyone else has thoughts. It seems to me Marcus has taken a much more influencing role. Thoughts?
Its like the opposite to when DC was assisting Ward. DC said he rarely had any input on matters and had to go along with what JW was doing maybe DC is happy to try out others ideas on what happens on the pitch.
MS is our attacking coach and SY is our defensive coach. They are responsible for their areas of coaching. So expect to see them both talking/shouting at players in their areas of the pitch that they are covering. Always encouraging/bollocking their players as and when needed. They need to make sure their players are concentrating and aware of whats going on around them. The fact we are seeing both MS and SY on the sidelines constantly talking/shouting - to me is good coaching by them. Looking at it in another way, if I was DC and was watching a poor defensive display and SY was just sitting there on the bench being quiet, I would be questioning SY as to what was going on! Same applies to MS for the attacking side of things. Yes DC is the manager but Alex Ferguson was never on the training pitch. He let his coaches to do the coaching. He told his coaches what he wanted and let his coaches get on with it. I can see the same happening here. DC does get up shouting instructions, shouting at the officials for bad decisions etc but he would usually tell MS what he wants and let MS & SY do the communicating with the team. MS is in charge of the development/reserve games. He needs 1 more badge I think to get all his coaching badges. This is great experience for him. DC, MS and SY seem to have a very good communicative relationship. The players seem to be responding well to this set up too. Long may this continue. Thats my view on it
Marcus is definitely taking a more active role on the sidelines, but I don't necessarily think that means that DC is taking a back seat. He's still pulling the strings and making the overall decisions, but clearly he's more open to input and a bit less autocratic in his management style than John Ward. As long as it works, they can put a plucked turkey in charge of the team for all I care!
