I've been a United fan as long as i can remember and i've been called a glory hunter many times, i admit i'm not from Manchester but i'm as passionate as it comes to supporting my team, it annoys me i get that called that name, its mainly from Chelsea and City fans, ironic really, given the fact they've got them now.
UTD are a global team, they have fans from every corner of the earth. ££££ and Chav FC are still small time clubs wanting/wishing to have the fanbase of UTD.
Fans like to throw that around. It's bollox. A plastic is someone who wears the jersey for bragging rights or to "fit in" but can't even name the team or really cares about results and so on just as long as they are winning. The level of support the teams get in Asia, the turnout when teams go there is unbelievable and tbh many home country fans could learn a thing or two from their Thai Japanese Australian or Malaysian counterparts. The support the teams get in those places is something else. As for the chavs. They have doubled? tripled? or more? their supporters since 2003 so tbh by the chav assessment of what is plastic, it would suggest by their own logic that most Chelsea fans are in fact plastic. The only plastic, really plastic fans I knew were the corporate types in places I worked, around 2005 I started to see all these clowns suddenly wearing chav shirts on a Friday and giving it loads to supporters of other teams even though they hadn't a clue what they were talking about
There's only so many seats in a stadium, everyone just can't go, meaning the vast majority of any club's supporters would be plastic by that logic of course
I have been to a game only once. Tbh, I can't afford to travel that far nor pay for the tickets. I do what I can, I help them through Sky, stupid it may seem.
Most of the people attending the Chavs' matches at SB are plastic. No clue about their own club, or about football. Just a way to spend money on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon in posh West London.
so many who attend are free corporate handout tickets, brokers and the like getting 20 tickets to had out when schmoozing and things like that It's why the the atmosphere has been **** for so long
If getting to a game is what separates a real fan from a plasitc fan then we wouldn't have that many real fans due to the simple fact that there are only a limited number of seats as the stadium. Assuming we play 50 games in a season so 25 at home and different people go to see each home match so no one person goes to two or more games then that would still be less than 2 million people over the season. We probably only get a couple of hunderend thousand different people (if that) that do get the chance to watch United at the matches after you take the season ticket holders and regular goers into account. Anyone that say's you have to go and see your team play to be a true fan is an ideot because it's not physically possible for everyone to do. I go a couple of times a season but I have never lived that far away so it's easier for me provided I can afford the ticket and there's a ticket available. It's not easy for everyone though.
i know many liverpool, chelsea, Arsneal fans and even recently City fans who are not living nearby their clubs i live in London, and 90% of chelsea fans i pass by in the streets are foreigners who majority born elsewhere .. regarding City, they are a local club never a brand so logical you won't see many of them outside Manchester, but i started to see more and more of city fans in london streets and all are foreigners 100%
just like prior to the PL you wouldn't see many United fans in Korea Doesn't matter where they are, if you support the team it makes no difference. unlike those corporate part time chavs who don't even know what offside is and thought kalou was a Greek alcohol drink
90% of Chelsea fans? What part of London are you from? lol. I'm from Croydon and the majority of fans supports Chelsea or Palace
South East, Southwark , I live 500m from Millwall club but am talking about my general experience around London not only my area
Ahh, general experience. Do you ask random people on the street who they support? As drogs said, who walks round with football shirts on? The only people who do are generally tourists...
So many reasons to support a football team, I have supported Chelsea since 1994 (I was 11 years old), mainly because my father supported them as his family are from Battersea, although i was born and raised in Milton Keynes. Haven't been to a Chelsea game since 1999 (0-1 loss to West Ham), mainly due to ticket prices and travel cost, but I support my team where I can in other ways, whether it is through buying merchandise or shirts, or Sky Subscription. To get to SB and back would cost me around £50.00 by train, return, plus the price of the ticket, plus food, drink and other miscellanous crap. Would easily cost me £200.00 in all to attend a game. I just cant do that nowadays with a kid, a mortgage, a car etc.
Just wanted to add that it does matter to an extent, to me you support a club for one of three reasons 1) They are your local team; 2) Your parents or uncle or other family member support them and you were raised to support them; 3) You are a glory hunter
