I'm coming there in October on a theatre tour and I've heard it's nigh on impossible to get digs there. If anyone could recommend somewhere to stay on a budget of between £60-£100 for the week that would be great. My plan was to commute from relatives in Newcastle but you can't get a train out of Billingham late enough for me to finish a show and make the last train so that's gone out the window. I hear it's a complete dive, I'm not even sure why there would be a theatre there? Any advice?

Well that's why I don't understand why we're going there rather than Sunderland or Newcastle. I hear it's just an industrial town that shuts down at 5.30. I might see about hiring a car for the week off one of those car share sites.

**** off the both of you. The town centres a 60s disaster but the newer bits are fine, few nice pubs up the top end. Forums just been done up too, looks swish. Regarding digs no idea, not exactly hotel central and its not enough of a dive to rent somewhere decent for that cheap. Have you tried the bus? X9 runs Billog to Newcastle, no idea what time til.

    I'm local...

Haha I was just saying what I've heard, never been to the place. Yeah it's the forum we're playing. So you couldn't be taken by the idea of a bit of extra cash for a spare bed for the week or know anyone who would?

Yeah the town centre is a bit of a toss hole. I used to work in the bookies adjacent to the Synthonia club and it was quite nice over that way, if you ignore the great big ICI building.

To the OP - My advice would be to find somewhere in Stockton or even 'Boro. Taxis between the three aren't that expensive. I think it's about £10-12 to 'Boro from Billingham and can't be more than a few quid from Stockton.

Not sure what else to suggest really, we are just a small town with a nice theatre, carshare to Darlo station mebbe? My spare room is rapidly becoming a nursery so no luck there I'm afraid.

where my dad was born, its not as bad as people like to make out, its quite a trek from newcastle though probably better off looking closer, on that sort of budget what about a youth hostel hardly luxary but must be fairly cheap?

I've had a look at the Metro Inn in Portrack Business park and the reviews are one of two extremes. Some people love it, say its great value for money but pretty basic. Others say it is used by prostitutes and it's ****ing rank.

    I wouldn't risk it.
