Does anyone else feel really optimistic about our future?

  1. We only got relegated 2 years ago, and look. We can still attract players from champions league clubs. We can still sign quality like Tiote and Ben Arfa, and we are ambitious enough to even be thinking about Gervinho and Sow coming to our club.

Does anyone else just feel really happy and optimistic that we're doing so well only a season after thinking that we could be the next Leeds?

I personally think Europe could be possible within the next couple of years. We seem to be spending money wisely now. Ben Arfa and Tiote together are probably worth 25 million, we payed only 8.5 million for them. Tiote must been one of the signings of the season. Obviously not in the same league as Van Der Vaart for 6 million, but still. We have bought a player that could end up being the next Essien, and we got him for 3.5.

I know i'm probably being a bit too optimistic, but i personally think we could be a true example of how a club can turn itself around.

We were all talking about hopefully finishing as high as 15/16th before the seasons starts, and now LOOK. We could very well finish in the top 10 first season up.

I personally think if we get a striker or two of the quality of Sow, and a couple of quality mids like Ireland in form and Gervinho, and another CB, we could do it within the next two seasons.

    Anyone else?

Worried that we might get that second season syndrome if we don't buy wisely in the summer, but if we do, I hope to have my passport out within the next 5 years :)

Yerp, im dead optimistic atm I think we can build a good squad over the summer we can become a top 10 regular, whilst also breaking into the Europa League. The only problem is that if we sogn all the African players this summer e.g. Sow Gervinho etc. They wont be able to play during Jan as the african cup of nations is on, therefore making us loose our best players including new signings and Tiote!

  4. How many times have i said this... <doh>

Second season syndrome happens to teams that have championship quality players, but their mentality of playing every game like a cup final gets them through the season.

We have a premier league quality team, therefore will most likely not suffer from it.

If we can keep hold of several key players then there is a lot to be optimistic about

Depends how we spend, second season syndrome is a killer but we just happen to have a nice little budget to spend in summer to counter it and build a great team with.

Think we want to get away from being the next Leeds, we nearly were a season ago.

Don't know how you can say he's not in the same league as Van der Vaart in terms of a quality signing. Firstly... its Tiote. Secondly while VdV is a very good buy, he's been disappointing since January-ish, and doesn't appear to have a good attitude imo, unlike the Chiekmeister.

Coloccini, Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Ben Arfa. These are all players who wouldnt look out of place in teams who are in the Europa league.

As long as we keep a hold of these, sign a solid partner for Colo and a 20+ goal a season striker, there is no reason why we shouldnt be challenging for europe in the not too distant future!

    Pretty much this.

I think it's been said before but this summer could dictate our next 5-7 years I reckon. A few good buys, getting rid of the right players and probably most importantly, keeping hold of the right players and we could have a super competitive team. On the other hand, some duff purchases coupled with letting our valuable players go and we could have a championship-quality team in a very competitive Premiership and erase all the good work done over the last 18 months or so.

To answer your question though, Tash... YES! I'm optimistic :)

IF we keep them, but can see Jose leaving and who knows where that leaves others.

Dare I say it, good article Tash!

Yes I am too optimistic for the future. We have the foundations for a top quality team...

    Colo
    Jose
    Tiote
    Barton
    Nolan
    Ben Arfa

With a few clever additions we will have a very promising team, but we know just how easily things can go tits up!

If I didn't have to have a look at the chairman, the manager, the strike force then, perhaps, I would be optimistic.

cautiously optimistic, emphasis on cautiously though. You can probably rely on MA to **** us over just as everything seems to be going smoothly.
I'll be properly optimistic once the summer transfer window slams shut, providing all goes well (good signings, keep our best players)

Personally I'm not sure, I'm being cautiously pessimistic because everything still has time to go tits up, we're bound to lose Enrique, which will make us even weaker, Barton still hasnt signed... dragged it on quite a bit now hasnt he? We've already seen that if a big offer comes in Ashley is willing to sell so whats to stop someone offering 20 million for Tiote in the summer?

The transfer money is there but does anyone SERIOUSLY think Ashley will spend anywhere near 30 million pounds? If we were to lose these players, and if the funds we'rent spent or say 10 mil was spent on a few lower league players, we could be in for a torrid time next season.

So before I get too optimistic about our future I'm going to see how everything pans out over the summer and see if our main men now sign new deals.

And Tash just because someone made a rumour up saying we are linked to Moussa Sow doesnt mean its even a possibility, and thats what triggered this article, bit silly mind.
