Does anyone else agree that we really need a Vice-Captain next season?

Coloccini is a good captain. He's intelligent, we look tight at the back in most games, and he can call the shots.

But there have been many times where things have just gone totally ****, and we've fallen apart, and Coloccini cannot seem to bollock us in to shape or stir the lads on.

When Steven Taylor was here, he offered that extra inspiration, that mental power, and even though he wasn't officially vice captain, he pretty much did the job.

We never fell apart like we have at times this season, when Saylor was here.

Heads start dropping, and we ship a tonne of goals.

As I said, Coloccini is great, but he needs a back up captain, he cannot do it by himself. Jonas is inspirational with his work effort, but again, he doesn't really offer than sort of mental power.

Saylor would be perfect, but we cannot rely on him to play more than half a season without getting injured.

We really need a vice captain, especially now we're in Europe or possibly CL, where the pressure is sometimes 10x worse than in just a standard PL game.

You need strong mentality to get through European games at times, and even though I think we have this most of the time, there are times where we just crumble, and we really need more than one player to guide the troops back into the game and smack them into shape.

Not something I think we need to be honest. I think we have plenty of leaders, and plenty of players willing to take responsibility on board. The likes of Cabaye will come out of their shell more next year too. He has led before. Hopefully it will be a non issue and Saylor will get a full season under his belt for once.

Maybe not an official vice captain, but it's quite clear that we lack that mentality to pick ourselves up and get back into it instead of just dropping our heads.

Yeah we'll have a half time team talk or have a bit of a go, but generally, we could use more leadership.

Cabaye doesn't look much like a captain to me. He's had little petulant moments where he lashed out, he doesn't really seem to direct anyone. He's tactically aware, but I don't see him guiding anyone.

Shola can provide mental strength, but to bad he's ****ing **** in many of the games he starts.

Saylor would be the obvious choice for Vice Captain if we were to have one. He's more vocal than anybody else and would do a good job.

We've done that with Colo in the team though, so having a vice captain ain't gonna make any difference. We've taken a few hammerings but mainly when our squad (in particular the defence) has been stretched. The other games like Fulham and Wigan were just bad 45's. Even Man U have those.

Kind of agree, but I just think the job of guiding the team is sometimes too much for Coloccini alone, he could use someone to back him up, and with Saylor, we looked mentally stronger and tighter and Coloccini looked more comfortable.

I think we'll probably find that when we add depth in the summer to the defence, we are even more solid next year. There is one issue which could have significant effect on our defensive capabilities. Cheik leaving. He may be a midfielder but the cover in front of the defence is superb when he's in the team.

On 25 February 2011 Newcastle United announced that Tioté had signed a new six-and-a-half year contract to show his commitment to the club, keeping him at Newcastle until 2017. Upon signing his new deal, Tioté said 'The experience of playing in the Premier League has been better than I ever hoped it could be. This is a great club and the fans have been brilliant – I have never known support like it.'

Lets hope its enough to keep him here. Unfortunately though its not only up to him.

I'm well aware of the Carroll situation, I was merely posting an announcement by the club regarding Tiote being happy enough to sign a long contract. Whatever else happens is another thing. We all know that contracts can be broken and sometimes aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I think if it was left solely to Tiote, he might stay. Every article or comment I've read from him suggests he has been blown away by the love he's been shown since arriving,

He won any doubters over with his goal against Arsenal and has become more of a fans favourite since then.
