Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson blasts referee Andy Davies following defeat to QPR
Nigel Pearson was furious with the match official as Bristol City conceded in first and second-half injury time to lose 2-1 at Ashton Gate

Alex Scott and Matty James can't believe it as Andy Davies gives a decision against Bristol City
Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson believes the Robins fell victim to some "dodgy refereeing" as they were beaten 2-1 by QPR, claiming official Andy Davies was parks' football standard.

Pearson insisted City were denied a clear cut penalty when goalscorer Alex Scott went down inside the area following a challenge from QPR's Jimmy Dunne with the hosts leading 1-0 and felt, among other decisions, that the corner from which Yoann Barbet scored an injury time winner should have been awarded a goal kick.

Davies, who was a late replacement for the originally advertised referee Andy Woolmer, was booed relentlessly by the Ashton Gate crowd due to the Scott incident and after sending off City midfielder Andy King for two yellow cards early in the second half.

Pearson made a beeline for Davies at full-time and was seen mouthing something in the referee's ear as he left the pitch.

"We came across a strong team and some dodgy refereeing. We should’ve had another penalty. The decisions were awful and I’ve told him that," Pearson said.

"I hope the next time we see him he’s on the park because that’s where he should be.

"How the assistant didn’t see it (the Scott penalty call). Look, we had it all on playing against 11 when we had 10 but the decisions just continued to be awful. It was a terrible performance by them (the officials).

"I’m not someone who moans a lot but let me tell you, that was awful today, and I told him as well."

Pearson confessed he didn't know Andy King was on a yellow card when he earned a second caution having cynically fouled Stefan Johansen on halfway as QPR looked to break on 56 minutes.

King had reacted inappropriately to the decision to award the Rs a penalty on the stroke of half-time after Cam Pring had fouled Ben Amos.

It was the 33-year-old's first appearance since October 16 having sustained a hamstring injury and will now rob Pearson of one of his midfield leaders for Sunday's Championship clash against Millwall.

"I think what you’ll find with Andy is that he’ll accept the responsibility for a mistake that he’s made," Pearson added.

"I’ll leave that with him to deal with his teammates about that. Even after that I thought we were excellent, even with 10 men. I’m not looking for a negative angle tonight."

Despite his irritation with referee Davies, Pearson maintained a positive demeanour post-match highlighting his team's overall performance.

Certainly before Charlie Austin's penalty equaliser in first-half injury time, City were by far the better team as Pearson made five changes to his starting line-up, including replacing captain and first-choice goalkeeper Dan Bentley with Max O'Leary for his first league start of the campaign.

"It’s a gut feeling about selection. My selection decisions are always based on what’s best for the team and it’s not training related with Dan," Pearson said.

"He’s a very accomplished goalkeeper, he’s our captain and it makes it even harder to leave a captain out. The rules apply to everyone at a football club.

"My job is to do what’s right for the team. I thought we played well as a team tonight, I thought the performances within it were good but more importantly we showed our ability to manage the ball well and that’s what I’ve been asking for and that’s what we’ve been working on in training.

"Apart from the very fact we’ve conceded late goals in either half, which we’ve done too many times this year, the first one is avoidable and the second one is not a corner. It’s one of those things you know, that’s life."

I have to say the agree, that’s probably the most inept performance I’ve ever seen from a referee, Nige tbf never usually complains about refs either, he was shocking, it want just a couple of decisions, he got pretty much every decision wrong.

not very often I actually criticise a person for the job they do, but where did they have to troll that lump of biased poo from? the Beckton plant ! totally irresponsible refereeing, has obviously got a personality complex ...
think both were penalties the city one more so ... King sending off had to be but always harsh when first is for dissent .....

As I said in another thread that was the worst officiating that I have ever seen and the guy should be banned to lower leagues at least. Having been a referee for many years down in Hampshire I feel for the job that the officials have to face and therefore have tremendous respect for their part in the game which is critical for the integrity of football. Rather than getting a fine, as we certainly will, we should get an apology for this officiating in a match that we certainly should have won that also may have a knock on effect on our season. Every time there was a questionable tackle the decisions all went against us and yet when an identical discretion went against QPR they were not penalized.

The penalty shout for a clear foul on Scott was brushed away by the referee and the same potential infraction at the end of the first half against us was immediately awarded as a penalty, and that is total inconsistency at it's worst. Would VAR have given us a victory is a moot point but never the less it is needed to overturn the awful decision making by referees of this calibre. I hope the league review games to ensure that officiating is up to the expected standard and that no team has to suffer potential dire consequences from decisions that were clearly wrong.

If I get poor service from any business I have the right to air my dissatisfaction and expect redress for my concerns but for some reason the footballing authorities don't allow talk back of any kind even though Nigel has a perfect right to be more than upset by what was on show yesterday. We will certainly get a fine, without any input, when in reality we are the seriously injured party in this case and won't even get a sideways glance from the supposed judges on high. Sympathy is not what we want but at least someone has to stand up and say that we were robbed by the unbelievable decisions made by what in my mind is a totally incompetent official.

Utterly gutted and shocked by the disaster of a referee who isn't fit for purpose.

PS. Why wasn't Dunne sent off for his foul which was exactly the same material that got King sent off for a second yellow? Just another mind blowing decision among a series of mistakes that all came at our expense.

I think the EFL should fully investigate the decisions and ref's background, a full in depth investigation no stone left unturned ....... really, no top 4 division ref can be that bad!!

They were both nailed on penalties and very similar types of challenges, but only one was given.

It was not only a nailed on penalty but defender could have gone for stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity

Wrong but right, sometimes you can't bite your tongue, you just have to say it. Otherwise it goes unchallenged and in refereeing cases can cause loss of job or financial pain.
If our team got relegated by 1 point and lost millions in revenue and manager sacked, how unjust.
