Sorry if you guys have spotted this already but I've only just noticed it. Looks like Rodgers is having none of it. His comment ""But the players are well paid, so it's just unlucky for them and he has to get on with it" is a bit insensitive to be honest. There's little indication he's going to play Dobbie any time soon and in my book that doesn't benefit anyone. If anyone gets injured it seems there are are least two players that Rodgers will put in before Dobbie. Whether he's right or wrong has been done to death (I happen to think he's wrong but others disagree), but to keep a player here when he's not going to be used is madness. Unless you're Man City. Rodgers is basically saying we need cover for injuries and if that happens Dobbie will get game time. Really Brendan? Really? http://bbc.in/vZA518
Really, yes! That's what Dobbie's paid for. If he can't raise is value in training and playing in the reserves then his role is what it is. It might suck for Dobbie, but the guy's 29+, has never been able to dominate and command a position here on a regular basis (although in his role at the end of last season he was terrific). He's part of a Prem squad and not getting paid peanuts to watch from the stands. As the saying goes, he's not a Prem League player, but a player that plays (when picked) to play in the Prem League - he could still be at Queen whatever it was up in Scotland and probably finding his own way to away matches.
But he isn't is he? He's here. And he's not being used. And he's not likely to be used. I don't agree with Rodgers not to play him and that's well documented but to say we may use him in the event of injuries is disingenuous. We could always have a recall clause inserted. It's doing nobody any good keeping a player like that in the reserves imo.
If he's not being used it's because there are players performing better ahead of him. He is training with the squad even through he gets match fitness playing in the reserves - players like Orlandi and Monk are not play regularly in the reserves. Fact is he needs to be in tune with our current tactics and fit and healthy for use at a moments notice. Playing for another club puts him at risk for injury and he's going to lose whatever edge he has in our system by adjusting to the system of the other club. Club comes first and he's not the only squad player in this position.
There are clearly issues between Rodgers and Dobbie, that much is very obvious, how the hell though do you put Lita and Moore in front of Dobbie, where were they at Wembley, I'm really mad about this, and seeing Lita coming on in front of Dobbie is pathetic, and doing no good for our points on the board!.............
I don't see it as that obvious just because Moore and Lita are ahead of Dobbie as striking options. Dobbie's best performances for us have been in the high midfield role he played during the last quarter of last season - in that role at the Championship level he was stellar. The "Dobbie Midfield" as I called it, trumped the "Pratley midfield" any which way you looked at it - we just outplayed teams when that midfield configuration was on the field. Dobbie could not pick up in the Prem where he left off last season. Argue as much as you'd like about was he given the chance, blah, blah, blah - but we don't run the club for any player's benefit. We needed to find a stable, successful mix in midfield and Allen with Britton / Gower, then Allen with Britton / Agustien, then Allen (in a different role) with Sig / Britton is what has worked. Right now we have Sigurrdson who has come into the "Dobbie" role - and he hasn't needed any time to adjust, get used to our style, get up to the pace of the Prem, whatever, he's just come in and got it done. "Sucks" for Dobbie, but he's a squad player for a mid-table Prem club - could be in far worse positions. I also don't see it as a personality issue between Rogers and Dobbie .... unless some of you have real inside **** that you'd like to post.
RODGERS re: DOBBIE - "But the players are well paid, so it's just unlucky for them and he has to get on with it" DOBBIE re: RODGERS - "Dobbie begs boss to let him take flight from Swans" Mirror "Stephen Dobbie is pleading with Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers to let him go out on loan – with Birmingham and Bristol City." "The Scottish attacker has not figured much for the Swans since they won promotion and he wants to play in the Championship." To me this is a sufficient conflict, which shows the two do not get on, we all know Dobbie just wants to play football, and he knows that Rodgers has his favourite forwards. It wouldn't be an issue, if Rodgers could prove that Dobbie was not good enough at this level, but Rodgers cannot prove that, as he has not given Dobbie a chance to play, If I was Dobbie, I'd walk when my contract ends this season at the Liberty, Dobbie's potential has still not peaked, and he'll have no problem finding a club, I can see that we will not be offering him another contract under Rodgers, and we will get nothing for him, as he will soon be out of contract, there will be many Championship clubs coming in for Steven, and I wish him all the best were ever he goes, but going he is, disgraceful the way we have treated him, reminds me of Marcos Painter!..................... please log in to view this image PS: Four teams have wanted Steven Dobbie, Birmingham, Bristol City, Blackpool, and Middlesbrough, and for Rodgers to block this knowing he's not going to use him, is deplorable, not only does Rodgers put Moore and Lita in front of him, but we now have Sigi too! No way I'd want to play for a manager that does this, when I was instrumental in getting the team promoted!..............
DPJ .... Quote (1) ..... what exactly is wrong with this statement of fact. Quote (2) ...... you're quoting the Mirror - do you really want to hang your hat on this reporting Quote (3) ..... exactly where does this quote come from. If true why wouldn't BR get him the hell out of town if only to remove the bad attitude. Quote (4) ..... exactly where does this quote come from ... and so what if he does .... we're not Dobbie United, we're Swansea City and he's an employee. Grasp at straws if you will, but this shows nothing. Not that Dobbie has a bad attitude. Not that he and BR have a conflict. Just a bunch of **** stirring reporters finding that the scoop of yoghurt between their ears is a few words shy of a deadline. I don't know where you're figuring that he hasn't peaked in terms of potential. Dobbie is 29+ and he's not the most athletic player on the club; nor the fastest, nor jumps the highest, nor the best defensively ... probably one of the better shooters I grant you, but Sig has that down too. He's just the wrong side of the numbers game right now, but a valuable asset to have nonetheless.
Yankee it's across the media, and whether it's coming from Dobbie himself, or his agent is of no consequence, but the fact is there is definitely an issue between the two, which is what you where minimising, the information is not just from the Mirror, the Mail have run with it, and so has the Daily Record, and Rodgers is hiding behind the injury excuse, yet we all know he's not going to get in front of Lita, Moore, and Sig, who are Rodgers signings! The fact that Rodgers could easily let him go out on loan, and have the option to recall him at any time, speaks volumes of what is going on.............
Mail Link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...warns-Stephen-Dobbie-forget-loan-Swansea.html I bet he never dreamt he'd be frozen out like this, and you think there is no issue between the two now!..........
Extrapolation and mis-interpretation. Rogers is usually full of blarney in most post-match interviews ... stretching the truth in his exuberance let's say, but I would never put him down as somebody who hides behind bullshit. Again we're not in business to be the farm system for the Championship and we don't get points for charitable works for the lower divisions. If I was BR, I would want all hands on deck down the stretch, everybody clued in and on the same page to the current system and everybody as healthy as could be, whether they are first person on the team sheet or just cleaning the boots. BR's job with Dobbie is as much to manage risk of loss through injury as it is anything else. If Dobbie goes away on loan and gets crocked we've lost an asset - instant recall does us a lot of good then. Our survival in the Prem is paramount - everything and everybody else on the payroll is saluting that flag; Dobbie included.
.............. What makes me laugh about all this, is his supposed defensive reliability is the issue with Rodgers, yet Lita has zero, and Moore no better, sometimes these managers clearly don't know their armpits from their elbows! Cue the, 'why don't you go for the managers job'............. I wouldn't say so much if Dobbie was our first choice backup striker, but he's not, and he's way down the pecking order, behind Lita, Moore, and Sigi!.............
I think you hit the nail on the head in your last comment DPJ ...... Dobbie is not thought of as a striker, he's thought of as a high midfield player. This is the role he plays in the reserves too from what I've seen on the video on Player. So comparisons with Moore, Lita et al are not what BR is doing. As a striker Dobbie struggled last season, which is why we brought Emmnes in and then all the others that followed culminating with Borini. If Dobbie doesn't make it in midfield with us, he's not going to make it.
I think that's the root of the problem YJ. Dobbie reinvented himself (or Rodgers reinvented him) as a high-end midfielder and it worked a treat last season. The Lita comparison isn't fair but the Moore one probably is. The only thing I'll say about Moore (apart from the fact that he's the laziest player I can ever remember in a Swans shirt) is that he is able to play out wide on occasion so brings us that bit of versatility on the bench. Apart from that I'd have Dobbie on the bench every time ahead of him. He has an eye for a pass, is very tricky and as you say can shoot. Last time I looked scoring goals is what it's all about. Your comment: "...he's not the most athletic player on the club; nor the fastest, nor jumps the highest, nor the best defensively ... probably one of the better shooters I grant you", Well, we're hardly blessed with them are we? But my beef in this thread isn't Rodgers' clash or non-clash with Dobbie. It's not about whether he thinks he's good enough. We know the answer to that. It's Rodgers on the one hand showing us as fans and the player what he thinks of him yet refusing to send the lad out on loan. It seems mean-spirited and disingenuous to me when it's pretty obvious he won't be using him.
one of the biggest dissapointments for me (and overall im over the moon so far!) this season is why Dobbie hasnt had an opportunity to proove himself in this league. Towards the end of last season he was absolutely on fire and as much as any other player responible for getting us where we are and on that form only Sigi could really challenge him for a place in attacking midfield. I was certain that he was going to make the step up to the Premier so whats happened? Either hes: 1 lost form 2 fallen out with Brendan I dont know but like someone else says let him go out on loan with a recall clause, obviously theres a risk of injury there but competive games will sharpen him up and make him a better player for us.
Dobbie's treatment is shocking. He was a major player for us last season, and now like a lot of QPR's players, has been thrown onto the bench. He hasn't even been given much game time, so how could be prove himself? I'm a huge fan of Dobbie's and would hate to see him leave, but for the sake of his career he needs to be left to go, even if it is only on loan.
Not to let him go out on loan is, as has been mentioned, disgraceful. If we (Rogers) did need him, he could always be recalled. I don`t see the problem with that, unless he got injured himself, of course.
