Who's up for it? Those who plan to vote no, please remember, you don't have click on the thread if you don't want to read it. This thread could be a good laugh as well as keeping all other threads free of squabbling.

There's one on the Sunderland board so could Sunderland fans please vote on that one? Voting supporters of any other clubs will not be recognised.

If you are going to tell anyone voting no that they should just ignore the thread what is the point of having a vote?

I'm not telling anyone fella, I'm not in charge of anybody. Just adding my opinion to the comments section, if your going to tell me not to have an opinion what's the point for the whole forum? <ok>

Too many cry babies. It would unfortunately get closed down or content reported to the supermods as in the past.
Good idea but it won't fly.

I voted for yes. Although I make a mental note of the irony given the OP and his track record.

The mods from both sides are surely the ones who set this up though?

Not for me, the moment there's a disagreement over something out come the 0-3 wins for you, we then go to 5 in a row and 5-1 etc and before you know it the banter is reduced to name calling. I just don't think it works, too many sensitive souls on both sides of the fence.

That said, I don't think giving it a go for a month or so to see if it works would do any harm.

Yeah we used to have them.

The problem with them was, and it's absolutely 2 sided, there are some from either side who can do nothing but sling the same pointless insults back & forth.

I banter constantly with Mag mates, we don't ever resort to insults and name calling, well, we do, but only the same name calling we'd call each other when talking about tits & arse as well.

My thinking fella, relations between the two clubs are at a high at the moment, so I thought pop the polls up and is it happens we can get it up early and try and continue it into the season and stay on good terms without the juvenile sister shagging and all that bullshit. Bit disappoint first post was a dig, starting to think it's just plain beyond some people.

Voted yes but it never happens.

Don't agree with the whole "lets bar certain banter" campaign. When did everyone become such a massive bunch of fannies? Yeah you can overdo jokes and it just becomes tedious but the odd well timed family themed joke etc is fine by me. Particularly if it is clever and witty. The only way this type of **** works is if you accept an almost no holds barred approach within reason. Obviously there have to be some limits and the problem will always be that one is acceptable to some, is not acceptable to others.

Some people are extra sensitive to family jokes for example, particularly when something bad has happened to a family member. So then you bar that. When do you stop though? There may be ginger jokes, and then the ginger gets offended. Then you get people who get offended by very little and are happy to give as much as they get. So a fat ginger decides to go to a family joke after joke about being fat and ginger is made, but is castigated because some "higher" power has decided where the boundaries are.

Lets face it there are plenty on both sides who are offended by different things, whether its family, politics, religion, appearances and just about any other topic. If it solely came down to discussing the game itself then fine, but it has never happened. That's just the devils advocate angle of course, personally speaking I really couldn't give two hoots what someones decides to throw around as an insult. I reckon it will more than likely turn into a tedious borefest with lots of "I'm reporting you" or "Why was my post deleted" "double standards" "you lied about this" "I remember when you said this on a thread" blah blah blah. **** me I'm bored thinking about it.

As long as it doesn't become as tedious as Mr Ts never ending negativity then I'm fine with it. Even if it does I'll just stop reading so doesn't bother me at all.

I'm consistent in my view that they are a good idea.
I do however agree with some of my fellow black and whites in that the beel is likely to reach epic proportions unless all involved on both sides fully accept that anyone entering the thread needs to stick on an Armadillo skin.

Logistically though this has been debated on the mod board in general in the past and I'm certain that V Bulletin (our platform) dictates that cross board threads would have to be instigated for all boards or none. That in itself represents it's own issues.

The other consideration is how banned members from one board will be able to access (or not) the thread.

My gut feel is that it won't happen anytime soon, but worst case what's stopping a banter thread going up on the PL board as long as we ask the Supermods nicely to keep an eye on things?

That way no one is banned and anyone can access it.

I'm looking forward to derby day in hope of some payback.... :)

A final thought (pinched from Facebook):

    Some Liverpool fans mock Munich
Some Man Utd fans mock Hillsborough
Sunderland fans raise money in memory of the two lost a Toon lads.

I have a feeling this derby (maybe not all beyond though) will be a wee bit different.

I voted yes but the usual suspects will get all Beelie and any thread will soon be shut down.
I see quite a few red and whites have voted no on their board.
