Every year the gas are tipped to either win the league or go up it seems like a curse if you ask me.
So is it going to be the same in the conference premier with Rovers tipped to bounce straight back personally I can see the club struggling to make the playoffs yet alone win the league.
A lot of changes need to happen before things can get better I see the Rovers staying in the conference for the next few season.
To much emphasis and time has been wasted and focused with the Uwe stadium it's become a white elephant for the club.
Yes it's ok having a fancy new stadium but you need to be in the right league to attract the right players instead of concentrating on the stadium spend the money on quality players to get them out of conference who's going to want to play at conference level.
I've read across several forums about people asking for Gary Johnson for manager what a ludicrous idea people need to be more realistic.
Good use of the loan market will do Rovers well next season but I still don't hold my breath on a plus point teams that get promotion from the conference normally follow it with a second promotion Doncaster Rovers being a prime example

hi mendip, welcome to the board <ok>

yes a lot of changes are needed big time and that needs to start at the top in the boardroom and i have no idea where to start. however these people are the ones who are making the next lot of major decisions for our club. the same people who have made so many bad decisions in the last 5 or so years. we just have to grin and bear it as we cant do anything else can we!
no chance will we get johnson here and to be honest i think that will be another mistake. fans will turn on him after a defeat or 2 because of being an ex red.
clarke now has a lot of work to do to get a squad capable of getting us out of the conference. its going to be hard an dits going to be interesting to see what players he brings in. i dont think we will go straight back up but if we start well which will be tough getting 10 players in the door and all gelling straight away, who knows. thankfully clarke does have experience at this level so will know what to expect.

i hope you enjoy the forum <ok> any questions about the place, feel free to ask. a few things are explained in the 'welcome to all new members' thread that is sticky <ok>
oh and i just want to point out that in your 1st 10 comments, if any have links to other sites, that comment will need to be verified by a moderator before it appears. its to avoid spammers.

Hi Mendip and welcome on board <ok>

There was always too much expectation pre-season. We'd always be one of the favourites to go up with the bookies, mainly because we were one of the biggest clubs in League 2. However, the chronic mismanagement that has blighted the club over the past few years has put Gasheads' expectations for next season firmly in perspective. I think we'll probably manage upper mid-table with a slight chance of the playoffs.

Everyone will want to beat us because we are the biggest team in the 5th tier. We'll be the best supported and have one of the biggest budgets - we'll also take the most away.

However, the likes of Forest Green have rich owners and a large budget and they can't seem to get out of the Conference. The UWE stadium now seems like a bad joke. The joy we all felt when Trash were finally defeated seems like a distant, and irrelevant, memory now.

I've followed the club for 36 years and this is the lowest I've ever felt. Each year I managed to be optimistic and set my sights high for the forthcoming season. For the first time ever, I'm not looking forward to this August. Sure, we'll have some good away days at some new grounds and there will be some good victories etc, but it will be tempered by the fact that we're playing in non-league, in a division that will be notoriously difficult to get out of.

That said, I think that the Conference will be weaker next season without Luton and possibly Cambridge, but it all depends on how hungover we are from this year's disappointment.

I've been a gas head for as long as I can remember without out giving my age away I used to watched them at Eastville as I lived not far from the ground.

I started watching them at Eastville and I come from a long line of Gasheads - my Dad even had trials with them and my Grandad was a member of the President's Club. Even this season, my uncle still drives up to every home game from Minehead. I was brought up until I was 10 in Heyford Avenue, just off Glenfrome Rd - so close you could easily hear the tannoy.

And it doesn't get much worse than this <wah>

I feel sorry for some obviously very young fan on the non league forum, who simply said

"Hi new teams I am a Gashead got relagated yestarday and I am only supported them 2 years "

Feel sorry for the poor little bugger :(

Not many fans think will bounce straight back so hopefully will lower our expectation and it will have a reverse effect

I've been watching Rovers for 12 years and I've still never seen us have a sustained promotion challenge. When we went up in 2007 that was because of a late run to the play-offs.

On past form I would say we have no chance of bouncing back. It took Oxford a while...
