When we were promoted under Martin O'Neill ? After a **** start to his reign, we secured our place in the play-offs with a win at Vicarage Rd then beat Portsmouth over two legs,both away as the so called home leg was at the City Ground. We then went on to beat Palace at Wembley...... Irony ?
History ... and a bit mixed Mick - beating Palace at Wembley would indeed be ironic - particularly if we 'shinned' the winner But the play-off at the City ground was under Brian Little - Julian Joachim scoring the winner ... I seem to recall that we beat Stoke in the play-off semi under O'Neil ...

There are certainly a great many co-incidences in football - it would be one if we were to again play Palace in a Wembley Play-off final .. One that I recall is in regard to the Euros - the opening game of Euro 96 was Germany angainst the Czechs - that was also the final Some years later when Greece won it they played the hosts, Portugal in the opening game of the tournament - guess who they beat in the final?
