Do you need a left footed left back? for me everytime yes!, Bardsley has been top draw no doubt but the side looked very unbalanced at times last year and it hurt us badly after xmas. On this board many times the selling or not replacing of DBthelyinggreedyrandyjudastwat has been sited as Bruces biggest gaff as our fearless leader, but for me it is the selling or not replacing of Danny "for brazil he should play" Collins. Much like Bardo not a superstar but a player who did his job and gave 100% where ever he played. Again like Bardo he was Probly one our our most commited players during his time here. He was rightly given the armband, only to be sold for a stupidly small fee. Sad but thats football. I dont want to see Bardsley moved on for pea-nuts while we splash out on a left back. I'd much rather keep him and buy a Danny Collins type left footed left back and let them share the role. The problem is now WHO? Warnock? (im not a real fan but i think he's in our range) Ridgewell? (CB by trade but does a useful job at LB not much attacking talent though) That Bloke from Celtic "he's a geezer" or summat? (not seen much but by all accounts supposed to be decent) Baines (i highly doubt it but this would be my dream LB real wand of a left foot) im just offering suggestions whats yours?
yes in my opinion we need to use the full width of the pitch we seen when we had hutton onloan before how he used the width over on the right and was an extra option when we were attacking we need a left footed version for the other side Richardson for me
i'd love it if Ricco took on the role i think he'd do a bloody good job, but i when i watch him play anywhere but behind the striker he doesnt seem interested
These days a lot of managers seem to play their wide midfielders / wingers on the opposite flank to what they're used to (I'm thinking Downing or Adam Johnson being utilised on the right when they're left footed for eg.) For this reason maybe a comparitive full back shouldnt be dismissed...... Probably one, if not the best left back in the world today - Philip Lahm - Right footed !
Baines is also my ideal left back, a good quality left back gives a team a completely new attacking option, which we dont have. Although if we have someone who doesnt offer anyhting going forward but is sound defensively then its vital we have a very good attacking left winger (which we dont). I would be gobsmacked if nothing is done about it this window but if not Bruce will have more fans on his back from day one.
good point 73 Lahm is immence and maldini was right footed, but i think we will have to defend more than AC and Bayern. I think we need a solid and balanced base to build attacks from.
'E'sageezer would be class. Maybe out of our grasp though I'm afraid. I'd actually take Maldini now. I bet he'd do a better job than Anton/Ricco.
Well, at least according to SSN Keiron is fit to play. I hope he accepts an offer to play at LB. If he focuses his mind on it he is still young enough to make an impression in that position. x
I'm sure Dennis Irwin was right footed and was one of Manchester Uniteds best left backs. id play bardsley or rico there depending on who we are playing. if the opposition have a quick and tricky winger id go with bardo for his defensive ability over rico, especially if it a left footer who will cut in as it will be to bardsleys stronger side. no disrespect to norwich, qpr, swansea, but id launch a full blitzkrieg against these types and go for rico. The reason why its so effective playing right footers on the left is they are going inside onto a right footed defenders left foot which 99% of right footed defenders there left foot is nothing more than a kick stand. Even Kevin Kilbane looked handy out on the right cutting in and scored a couple of crackers.
Yes, Bardo is a right back. Richardson will be first choice left back, if he gets a run in the position and does not get either injured or moved to another position as cover I think he will do really well. Bardo, Ferdinand or Oshea can be cover for that position.
Right footed left backs....... I can recall Frank Clark being an outstanding left back ....... For our board's youngsters, he played for the Toon and became Asst Manager at Sunderland ....
Oh yeah - I'd LOVE Baines at Sunderland - and other than that the rest couldn't lace Bardsley's boots.. I rate Phil; Bardsley as a leader and a player - Great for the club and infectious - can raise the crowd with a single challenge - only him and catts have that ability and it's something we need IMO
An added benefit of N'Zogbia is that he can play left back. This should work well when playing at home against some of the less fancied teams in the league when we want to be more attack minded. Away from home a more defensive left back like Bardsley might be the best thing with N'zogbia being used higher up the pitch. Of course as we probably won't be getting N'zogbia we might want to use the poor mans version known as Rico. Not a player I have a lot of confidence in.
I'd sooner play Syd at left back than Richardson. Spot on about Urwin as well at left back and I dont know why its bothering people really. How many times did Bardo get skinned last season? The only time he was under pressure is when we had no left midfield option. I'd be happier if we got N'Zog to support him but I dont kn ow why anyone would want to replace Bardo IMO. He may be no Roberto Carlos in the attacking role but nevertheless, he is a top defender.
Don't know about you lot but I'd still love Danny Collins back. As it stands at the moment, Bardo for me, can't see how he could be dropped after last season.
