I'm a huge don't know. Why say yes or no when we have no real evidence? The only way we will know is when he says it on television himself or on radio.
As much as I despise the Daily Mail it's a fool hearty national journalist who deliberately misquotes (in this case lies about) someone outright. Usually the lies don't contain a single quote from anyone.
Of course they are genuine quotes people. You can't just quote somebody having made up that quote. Quotes are open to distortion by the papers but i think the quotes we are seeing are pretty clear, don't you?
Let's look at the supposed quotes, leaving aside the idea that Modric decided to talk to a British newspaper while on holiday and that the paper decided to sit on it for one day âI want to leave Tottenham as friends. I have enjoyed my time there, but now it is right for me to look at another club. 'I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.â âChelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League. âI want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family. I like the city.â âI donât want to have an argument with Tottenham,â said Modric. âThe supporters have been very good to me and I have enjoyed my time playing for the club, but it is for football that players leave clubs and move. It has happened to Tottenham before. It is normal for a player to dream about playing for a bigger club.â âIf somebody comes to the club and the offer is good for me and acceptable to them, then I want to leave,â he said. âIt has to be good for my ambition. It has to be a club who are winning titles and playing in the Champions League. âThis is not about money, it is about ambition. When I came to England, I was dreaming about winning titles. That is still the same. âTottenham are a big club, with good players and a good manager, but I want to fight for the championship. Spurs will always have a place in my heart. My experiences in the Champions League have left me with the desire for more.â âI need to talk with the chairman. I wonât ask for a transfer, no. That would be disrespectful. I hope they can reach an agreement (with another club) that is satisfactory for everyone. I am on holiday, but I need to speak and to see if I can find a solution to this.â I see no reason to believe a newspaper over someone who has already publicly stated his views If Modric goes on TV and says he wants to leave then I will believe it. But I have no reason to believe the biased British media who have a track record of spinning things to suit their agenda (football and otherwise)
Allstarcroats No I don't The British national papers have always edited things to fit their POV and ignored facts that they don't like That's why I will not believe Modric wants to leave until he comes out on TV and says so or the club says so
“It doesn’t matter if we qualify or don’t qualify for the Champions League, the team will stay together,” said Modric. “We are all thinking positively that we will qualify. No one is thinking of leaving Tottenham. We are happy here. Tottenham are a big club.” Modric also shares manager Harry Redknapp’s belief that this Tottenham team can win the Premier League. “We can become one of the best teams if we all stay together for a long time,” said Modric. “We are close. We are coming and we have a great future.”
I believe that both sets of quotes are true, Colonel. It's a total turn around, but I think that Modric has been had a word with.
I understand that Gadaffi Believe me these quotes shocked me just as much, i only wrote an article a few days ago stating my belief that Luka will not leave Spurs in this window. However, at the same time, i can see where Luka is coming from. He is nearly 26 and he must be aware of his own potential. Unfortunately with Spurs he will be unable to fulfill his potential because we missed out on the Champions League. The club didn't show enough ambition in the January transfer market. On top of that he has seen his good friend Niko frozen out of the team whilst mediocre players such as Lennon and Crouch continue to play week in week out. He has been given a chance to go and work under a world class manager, Hiddink, with a team that has a genuine chance of winning the CL. Its almost impossible to refuse. In fact it would be foolish to do so imo
Actually one set of alleged quotes doesn't fit the media mindset of top players always wanting to play in the CL no matter what and one set does It is no coincidence that anything suggesting a player will stay at a non-CL club is ignored and anything suggesting the same player wants to leave to play in the CL is seized upon The idea that good players have to leave a club if they don't qualify for the CL does piss me off as it shows laziness on the part of the player and the same clubs qualifying for the CL every season thanks to the money and top players Since you accuse me of only hearing what I want to hear then I point you to the confirmed action of Modric in signing a new contract last season. Do you have anything definite from him to suggest he wants out?
I grant you that his signing of that contract was a definite sign of his intent to stay at WHL, but in reallity, he wouldn't be the first player to sign one day and move the next. Combine this with the quotes and I think the odds are on the side of him moving. Anyway, the speculation from both sides of the argument will continue to repeat itself until he makes an 'official' statement himself. Either denial of any move or some cock&bull excuse about why he signed and is now looking to go. As for the media paranoia. There isn't a club in the country that doesn't get stick from them, yet some of the comments made in this thread and others are verging on paranoia. At the very least they are a deliberate attempt to deflect from reality by creating false bogey men. Last year it was every ref that was anti spurs, who will be blamed for any failings next year? Will we hear 'Arry saying "I didn't see it" as much as Wenger does?
I agree with you. If/when he moves, I get the feeling that it will be about football and not the money.
"“I would like to go to Chelsea. A lot of players would like to go there and play for Chelsea because it is one of the best clubs in the world, and so do I, I would like to play there. But we will see what will happen" That is pretty definitive to me I don't think you can accuse Modric of laziness though - he broke his leg for the Spurs cause. Has always put in a 110% and as a result of his efforts has attracted many admirers. Its just the way the football world operates. And it does so on all levels. Tottenham have poached players from lesser clubs, much the same way the Man U have done to us in the past. Regarding the 6 year contract.... One of football's great myths is that contracts protect a club from losing a player. These contracts only serve to increase a clubs bargaining position. I would speculate that when Modric signed this 6 year contract, he would have insisted on the club making certain assurances regarding his future. As quoted, he has an agreement with Levy to consider offers. Harry rambling away in the media is almost irrelevant as everybody knows he will be gone by the end of next season anyway.
Right We have an established "big 4" of Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal (with a lot of journalists who support those teams) for the last 10 years or so Which team was the most likely to challenge those 4 teams Tottenham It is therefore no coincidence that all the top players at Tottenham like Carrick/Berbatov/Modric/Bale/VDV/Defoe are linked to moves, and that there is no condemnation of the clubs interested in those players (whereas Real Madrid/Barcelona were condemned for being interested in Ronaldo and Fabregas) There was an Evening Standard journalist who, the day after Bale's performance at WHL against Inter, said he would be surprised if Bale was with Spurs next season. That clearly shows their agenda.
That alleged quote says he would like to play for Chelsea but will see what happens Let's assume we take the less likely option and say the quote is true. Lots of players would want to play for Chelsea but very few end up doing so. If Chelsea want to buy him they will have to pay the price asked for (and 28M is nowhere near that) This all boils down to whether or not the media is to be believed. I say no, a lot of you say yes. If Modric really wants out he will tell Redknapp/Levy and they will say so
