Iâve seen comments both here and on the PinkUn message board about the need for another striker after yessterday's lack of goals, but surely the reason for that was much more to do with some inspired goalkeeping from Brad Friedel than our strike force hitting the net. I know that some of his most outstanding saves were goalbound efforts from our midfielders, but I have always said that at least half of our goals will come from players other than strikers!!!! I fully expect Grant Holt to start hitting the back of the net before long, as he usually takes a few games to really get his season going. Iâd just like to add that I thought the Leeds triumvirate were all outstanding yesterday and cost us a grand total of less than £10M â has to be a bargain IMO!!!!
Brad Friedel was a big, big factor in Spurs getting away with a draw on the day but what struck me most was that most of our clear-cut chances were taken by the Midfield duo of Snodgrass and Johnson! Now that is no bad thing providing they weigh in with enough goals but Holt & Jackson have not been getting many chances between them (Jacko last week the only chance between them I can recall). Do we need more strikers? Possibly not but we do need to somehow find a way of supplying what we have more often. Last season we were top scorers from headers but we are not getting in as many crosses in from wide positions so far this time round. Need more time to make a serious assessment but certainly not too worried as of today
Holt has looked pretty ordinary so far in 3 games, like has been said before he's a slow starter but if he doesn't find his form it is going to heap a lot of presure on the midfield who are not known as prolific finishers. I thought Morro looked a little bit desperate yesterday, like a man who knows he's not in form and usually that means the harder you try the worse you play. He needs to relax a bit and hopefully last seasons early form will return? Did seethe two goals CMS scored yesterday and must admit to thinking if only.........
Thought morro did well, came on and did a job and I think holty is windin up nicely, he's going to be fine, the deluge of goals is coming there. It was inevitable Cms would do well lol just like it was inevitable that dembele bloke would score. What a bastard.
Don't forget Harry Kane, the deadline day loan signing, who has a great future ahead of him, by all accounts
sorry, but what game was chippy watching??? morison did really well when he came on, should have won a penalty but for more inept refereeing and set up another chance on a plate. for god sake get off his back - its utterly ridiculous and it seems he can do no right with some. he played pants in midweek, fine give him a bit of stick, but not when he plays well! as for holty, how many chances has he actually been presented with this season? two, maybe three? he's playing pretty well but of course he isn't going to score goals if he's not presented with chances. how anyone can find anything negative about yesterday is unbelievable - the only criticism can be that we didn't win and that wasn't so much our fault as friedel's brilliance that prevented it - we deserved to win the match comfortably and are shaping up very nicely indeed after our calamitous start. its time some people start to believe in our manager and players - they're pretty good you know
ps. CMS goals = unbelievable tekkers! but of course, he's not good enough for us cos he's not a big name striker or from abroad or costs loads of money... also, i hear from certain people that he was extremely close to joining us on friday and the move fell down late that night. interesting if true, not sure why it would have broken down.
Supers i was watching the high lights on football first, which i didn't think showed Morro in a great light? Agreed he should have had a stone wall pen but it didn't look like he did much else? Holt looks as though he is labouring around the pitch, IMO, but cant see how you see my post as being overly negative, its my opinion and assement of which im entitled to i believe ?
morison was a real threat when he came on. holt too played well. please don't criticize players based on a few minutes of highlights as you don't get a true reflection all the time. you've misjudged their performances.
correct beefy. we were excellent throughout. my point may seem harsh on chippy, but if you only watched the highlights you might be forgiven for thinking howson had a poor game. he was at fault for their goal and gave the ball away a few times on the highlights whereas he had an absolute stormer. only johnson played better in my opinion (that man is possessed at the moment!) and isn't it ironic that at this stage so far, our three best players have been the ex-leeds 'league one' lads...
Johnson has definitely been influenced with the inclusion of snodgrass. He's upped his game and they look a real force in the middle of the park. very happy with them.
If your not able to be at the match you can only judge on what your shown, if you were at the match then you've seen more that i did yesterday and i will respect your judgement of them both, but from the high lights neither were shown to do much? The team and in particular the midfield looked superb and give me a feeling of renewed hope for this season after how they've improoved from the opening day. But i still feel at the moment we look weak up front, and this is one area last season that didn't give concern !
what was most pleasing and was the thing i was perhaps most concerned about is the togetherness from previous years is still there. that will be key to our progress. i'm not concerned about our forwards - we've added an extra body and we've still got the same players who scored plenty last year. i think jackson will score more so if anything we're in better shape up top. it would have been nice to get someone else in but it wasn't to be and all other areas of the team are significantly stronger, so no worries
One day, Johnson is going to get one of those on target and take out a sizable chunk of the net. and stand.
