Do we need to bring in a full-back?

I guess we will see how miquel does tonight but in all honesty do we really need to bring in another full-back, there were rumours that we were looking at wayne bridge for a possible loan move.

But he would only play for a couple of weeks till gibbs gets back then he would be on the bench and i'm sure the rest of our defenders aren't that far away from returning. Wenger has always put his faith in youth so this would be the perfect time to stick by that, i know that miquel looked a bit shaky on sunday but that was probably because he had to come on unexpectedly in a huge match. I think that he will be a lot more comfortable once he starts matches.

I certainly would. Maybe even 2. Loans are ideal for just this reason. Who cares if another team's player is kicking his heels once our player returns? It also means we won't be forced to rush players recovery which we've done so often in the past. I'd not touch Bridge with yours though, I'd try and get hold of that chap who was signed from Marseille at the start of the season and is already moaning. His name escapes me but he can at least play football.

The only guarantee with Gibbs is he will get injured again, you can't say Gibbs should be back because, he is always due back and gets injured again. He is Setback Master !! No wait .. is that Diaby ?

Agreed, I'd give it up with Kieran. I feel sorry for him as I feel he had real potential but is doomed to always get these setbacks. I'd much rather we had a healthy, reliable backup to Santos (though personally I'd rather Andre was the backup) than perma-crock KG.

    Definitely.
Full backs come cheap as well, no idea what direction AW will be looking but we should be able to pick one up capable of playing at this level for less than £5m.

Gary Cahill to Chelsea for £9m is what the rumour wire says - probably about £8m more than he's worth....

I think it's a bit early to give up on gibbs right now, people said the same thing about rvp but he now seems to have put his injury worries behind him, all gibbs needs is a run of games and i would certainly have him ahead of santos, also with the form that kos is in i have no problem with playing vermalen at left back atm because he is comfortable there and kos seems to be working really well with mertesacker, i would rather wenger brought in a replacement for fabregas rather than a full-back.

Gibbs is a poor mans Clichy anyway. (who in turn was a poor mans Ashley Cole)

He has'nt improved in years and is seriously injury prone.

But now look at RVP, perfect example of why this isn't always a good idea.

Agree with this <ok> Gibbs is only 22 and he's got his whole career ahead of him still. Like RVP and Walcott he's had injuries to overcome, but when he does, I think he'll become a decent LB/LW. That said until then we need some cover and I wouldn't be opposed to a Wayne Bridge loan move.

Long term for a permanent signing, I'd rather see Wenger replace Fabregas with Goetze.

I like your sentiment but even early doors with RVP you could see he had class. His problems back then were maturity rather than fitness. By the time his injuries started taking over it was apparent he was pretty damn good. In fact, the reason why he was so damn frustrating was because every time he came back from injury he played well right up until his next setback.

Gibbs obviously has it in him to be a good player but I've been less than convinced with his performances when he's been able to play. I've no doubt that with an extended run he can become a decent squad member but will he ever be healthy long enough for that? The difference for me (and this is just my personal opinion) is that I don't think he'll ever be a world beater whereas RVP is. I'd cut my losses and get a good backup in. If we were to do that then I'd sincerely hope he has all the luck wherever he ends up - hell, I'll probably rue Arsene at being so short sighted at releasing him! Happily though we'd have hopefully brought a quality replacement so won't mind too much. ;)

Yeah but RVP looked great when he played .. Gibbs looks iffy. Neither he or Jenkinson should be starters, neither of them are ready yet. Bring in 1 full back minimum I say.
