Will it undermine our journey if we yoyo? Personally, I can't see too much harm in having to go through the Championship one more time. We have an outstanding youth set up - but they will struggle to break through in the Premiership. If we can hold on to the bulk of this team and come back up stronger then that may actually be better than holding on to 17th place. I know I want to stay up (relelgations are horrible), but I won't spend this season getting miserable that we might go down after we have achieved two magical promotions. We are a good team but this is an amazing league. Oh, and just to clarify, I am quite proud of the way we have played for the most part this season.
It would be a shame to miss out on the bumper TV money increase starting next season, however Blackpool have shown that by not spending much and going straight back down, they are doing very well indeed by profiting from the parachute payments. Considering the amount of money we've spent though, I don't think we can follow that route now, and it would be difficult to keep our star players. I don't think it's in Cortese's plan to be relegated, and I believe that if we're in danger come January then he will spend even more to ensure we don't go down.
My understanding is that from next season the new PL contract with Sky comes into affect, with clubs getting a stupid amount of extra money compared to this season. 70% more or something I think this new contract is worth. Being one of the 20 clubs on the receiving end of that cash would be a great help to us. Conversely, not being one of those clubs could put at a real disadvantage should/when we return to PL. But money aside, relegation would not be the end of the world.
You don't want to be in the Championship, anyone can go up-who would have thought us and Reading would have gone up automatically last season?
Indeed. I don't really know why the subject is coming up yet. Besides, Cortese won't accept the parachute payments. He sees them as a reward for failure.
Oh for heavens sake - we have played FOUR GAMES. Men shouldn't be allowed to support football teams - they are way too dumb.
There is something to be said financially for promotion, not spending, and being relegated with parachute payments. We have failed on one part of that by spending serious money. Cortese never said he wouldn't accept parachute money...he said you shouldn't budget so that you had to have them. The Swiss (Italian or otherwise) are not known for being daft and refusing free money.
If I were to say women shouldn't support foootball teams as they shouldn't be let out of the kitchen, would that be a fair point?
There are a lot more men on this board than women. Some clever men, some average, some dumb. Nonetheless, there will be more dumb men on this board than there are dumb women, so it's unfair to say men are dumb because most dumb posters are men.
True. But those of us here who are not men are all clever. And wise. And sensible. And patient. And always right. Quod erat demonstrandum
