‘That’s another thing!’ - Coventry City boss points finger at Bristol City players The Sky Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at much fancied Bristol City on the opening day of the new campaign. Coventry City manager Mark Robins was less than happy with the antics of some of Bristol City’s players who, he says, tried to get star midfielder Gustavo Hamer sent off. The Sky Blues boss was forced to withdraw the Dutch/Brazilian on the hour for fear of the influential player being shown the red card at Ashton Gate. The 23-year-old was walking a disciplinary tightrope after picking up a yellow card in the opening ten minutes – a situation the home side seized upon and tried to exploit, with Robins accusing one player of throwing himself to the ground while others attempted to influence the referee, who issued a second warning to Hamer. His substitution unsettled City’s rhythm and the home side finished the stronger of the two sides, going on to grab the winner eight minutes from time. “He (Hamer) was on his last warning and they were throwing themselves,” said Robins, reflecting on the 2-1 defeat. “Tommy Rowe threw himself on the floor in the first half to try to get him sent off. “So that’s another thing. The level is different and you don’t necessarily see it at the level down. “There was no real contact and then they start to get onto the referee and he starts to react to it.” Robins admits that the dark arts of football is something the player has to get used to. “He’s learning and I thought he was brilliant, did really, really well,” he said. “Some of his passing was outstanding, he was involved for the move for the goal. I thought Callum was brilliant and good generally, playing some really good football. “And for me that’s a good thing. They have felt it now, what it is to play a really good team away from home and have some real success with it.” https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/s...ws/coventry-city-bristol-mark-robins-18925924
He says that “Tommy Rowe threw himself on the floor in the first half to try to get him (Hamer) sent off " is Rowe a cheat and deserved a red card or is it just sour grapes and Robins making excuses?
"The level is different and you don't necessarily see it at the level down". If he is talking about league one then he is talking utter bollox, You see it in every league from the top one to the bottom one these days and it has become part of the game. Sadly may I add, as a senior who remembers players openly kicking lumps out of each other and few staying down unless their leg was hanging off. You only have to look at the stats on matches now where it say "fouls" followed by the category "fouls won". You shouldn't be able to win a foul as that implies you deliberately set yourself up to be fouled and then make sure the Ref see's whatever foul it was. As for diving well they are all quite adept at that now and if Robins is saying his players don't do that then again he is talking bollox. Conclusion therefore is it is sour grapes his players lost. Had they won you wouldn't hear a peep out of the man apart from how great his boys are.
Mate, nice to talk and I do agree with you, I remember Maradona and 'The hand of god' we all do it, always have and it's their fault.
Unusually at our level I thought that the officials on Saturday were very good and got pretty much everything right. What Mr Robins fails to address that having been booked, his player on at least 3 occasions was quite disrespectful to the referee, in his face arguing, could easily have received a 2nd yellow for that, I suspect that is the more likely reason that Hamer was subbed. On that theme I have noticed that since the restart of last season referees have been put under pressure by very aggressive behaviour from players, respect has gone out of the window and it has also crept into rugby as well.
Yes City cheat and the cheating gets worse the higher the level. no diving at Paulton and Manor farm.
5 sent off in the last minute of play PSG v Marseille and of course Neymar (the biggest cheat in world football) was one, to be honest the referee probably never helped himself 2 or 3 minutes earlier Neymar already on a booking pushed a Marseille player to the ground and then carried his feud with that player on for a full minute and still had time to get into the referees face.
Bit rich coming from Robin's, cnuts were time wasting after five minutes when we played them at the Birmingham **** tip last season.
