4-2-3-1: Been thinking about where everyone is going to fit in the new team...........and I love this formation. It gives flexibility to attacking players like Ben Arfa playing behind Ba and also gives us options to put Check in a defensive holding role

Buying another striker might rob us of a midfielder like Barton playing every game as I can't see AP dropping Check or the 2 new French lads if we play 4-4-2.............

Even if we're playing one up top we still need one more in, number 9 or not. Bests still unproven, and Shola shouldn't be second choice at this point of his career. Given Ba's injury history and the ACON we need someone else for rotation/back up.

Why should we be stuck with one formation all season?

I'm hoping the risky signing of Ba is the back up option. His knee and his attitude have been questioned at previous clubs, he'll be off to ACON, and he is not a proven goalscorer. he's just a guy who had a decent run from Jan to May whilst trying to earn a future contract. Plenty have done that. Not being negative but there is no point dressing him up to be some kind of wonder signing. We desperately need a first choice striker.

Exactly, I said the same kind of thing when he was first signed:

I'm not going to go and say we need a new number 9 'cos we all know what that shirt means to us but we do need another striker in my opinion.

He's got 1 goal in every 2 appearances in his entire career, including 7 goals in 12 in the Premier League

Now I'm not saying he IS the answer to our striker problem but it a damn good start and to say he's not a proven goalscorer is just plain stupid considering his stats. I know a lot of them have been in weaker leagues but you're writing him off before he's kicked a ball for us.
