Some interesting betting odds floating about right now. Naturally I'm only concerned with the ones that affect us and the teams that finished around us last season.

What did surprise me is that West Ham, West Brom, Newcastle and Southampton are all tipped as better bets to stay up than us. My take is this; I think we are better than West Ham and Southampton as well as WBA who might well struggle without Lukaku's goals. Toon had a bad season but are probably better than their position implied and should improve this year.

So, do you think the bookies are saying that the Europa is going to take it out of us? Personally, without it, I think we could seriously challenge for 7th spot with the squad we've got but then we probably wouldn't have such depth if we didn't need them for the extra games. Thoughts anyone?

I looked at the odds two weeks ago and couldn't believe the teams that were being quoted shorter than us. Odds reflect the bias of the betting more than anything else. There are probably more people putting money on their own clubs and those clubs have a bigger following than us, hence the shorter odds.

I do fancy our chances much better than the bookies' odds are reflecting.

Odd are false at the moment as its nothing but guess work to get the punters betting. this is the best time to bet on the swans because you wont get them odds after a few weeks into the season....get them bets on now i would advise..

i think we're always underestimated in predictions and betting odds etc.

I remember last season the Racing & Football Outlook had a huge article in the season trader section suggesting a lump on Swansea to be relegated because they'll be (direct quote from the title) 'Rock bottom at Christmas' and then you could lay it off for a huge profit as swansea will start very poorly, won't be able to score goals etc.

Needless to say that 'expert' will have spent many weeks hoping and praying for his position to recover and then end up taking a huge loss. Unlucky pal :p

They are just offering large odds for us to go down to tempt idiots into putting their money on us to stay up. I'm sure the bookies reckon we will stay up and will therefore make a killing from said idiots. A Fool and his money are soon parted.

Not fretting, Phil. Far from it. Just a bit indignant that the teams I mentioned are regarded by some as being a better bet than us to stay up. I reckon we'll finish above the lot of them, odds or no odds.

With the squad we have assembled and the change in manager at Everton (and the inevitable sale of Baines and Fellaini to Utd imo), and Liverpool on the verge of losing Suarez, I think we can have a decent crack at the Europa League and finish top 8 this season, provided we don't have any injuries to key players <ok>

Villa, Swans, West Brom, Newcastle, Fulham, Southampton and West Brom, are all around 8/1. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I think Southampton will do well. They had a solid second half of last season. However I think we are capable of being above them -and the rest.
