Anyone care to share some of their Christmas traditions? I'll kick off with: Muppets Christmas Carol - Usually watch this on Christmas Eve as I have done since I was a kid.. Nothing will beat it as a Christmas film and it's a real nostalgia inducing 90 minutes of festive cheer for me As my Wife is from the Midlands (where we live) we're still taking it in turns as to who's family we spend Christmas with and this year it's my turn.. Winner! So I'll be wandering along Southwold Beach early Boxing day morning with the Dogs and drinking enough Adnams to make my Blood change consistency
Speaking of which.. Things I hate include Wham - Last Christmas (Utter ****e) Any Mariah Carey song, particularly all I want for Christmas (Biggest load of ****e going) Pogues and Kirsty McCall - Stop playing it every 5 minutes.. You've ruined it for everyone.
That's the spirit I have 2 Xmas radio stations pre-set on van radio. No Christmas traditions apart from getting more miserable about Christmas every year
Quite like chirstmas - nice time to be around family, exchange gifts, have a laugh. Think it's a great time of the year! No real traditions these days - however would never go to a football match on boxing day so long as I live. Around 2007-9, I think perhaps 2008 - went to Leicester 2 Ipswich 0. I felt wrong the entire day of being there, and it's the only town game I've left early on. We were 2-0 down on around 83, so me and a friend left. Was sooooo happy when arrived home !!
Can't beat Muppets Christmas Carol. But Polar Express will be the film this year for Christmas Eve. Pancakes for breakfast on Christmas Day is something we started last year and mean to make a tradition of.
A small present hidden in the tree is something we did when I was growing up and I now do the same with my wife and son. Christmas tree presents are opened in the evening on xmas day. It's a little bit of fun to search for gifts and just gives you something extra after the madness of the early morning!
Christmas is just one day and so many get caught up in the mad frenzy, too much shopping, too high expectations, too much food & drink, but always good to see old family & friends again, if they are not too grumpy. Little acts of kindness go a long way at this time of year. Too many are lonely, unhappy and feel left out. Quite a few prefer to do their own thing. Stopped going to church 30 years ago...
Ahh Southwold, one of my favourite places, as a child we swam, played and romped along the shore, and learnt to swim in that bracing North Sea..bbrrrrr! prefer the Harbour inn pub these days! The Town has changed hugely with all the Incomers and 2nd homers. But you cant beat that East coast. We return once a year if we can.
My Christmas and New Year always tends to be a tour of England from East Anglia to London to Yorkshire to the North East. Lots of driving. Beach walks. Dinners. Board games. And always try to work in a trip to Portman Road. Fixtures not working out for that this year though so it will be the Riverside.
My cousin brought with her a Canadian game where you have to guess words laid out from clues... it’s better than I’m describing it. Various editions of Monopoly is a staple, trivial pursuit, risk, chess, Jenga... my 6 year old niece loves Cluedo but she hasn’t learned not to shout out her hand yet... There is an evil game called Anti-monopoly that I think is unwinnable. We had three solid days on it one year and the deadlock has never been broken.
Hey Hampy, was that Canadian game called Montage ? If so it's brilliant, I tried to get it over here years ago but couldn't.
