Two And A Half Goals: Hughes' QPR can contain Demba Ba

[Caption] Will Demba thrive against QPR?

    Sunday

    Newcastle v QPR

Mark Hughes' teams are hardly what you'd call adventurous. More like organised, or solid. But Ossie Ardiles he is not.

He takes his first game in charge of a side that struggles to score, but shows promise in defence. They'll play away to a team that's high on confidence and ability. Given that, what would you expect from any manager, never mind Hughes, other than an ultra-cautious approach?

Those betting 'over' on this game are likely to have been influenced by the recent Toon win over Man Utd. But a highly-attacking and defensively-weakened United bares no comparison to a Rangers side which lacks ambition and firepower in equal measures.

Newcastle look most effective on the break, through use of their pacy wingers, and long balls through the middle to Demba Ba. They are reliant though on teams, such as Man United, coming on to them.

This game should more resemble when Wigan went to St James' Park. On that occasion, only a late shot from outside the box salvaged for Newcastle what looked like being an unlikely three points.

Well it's either that they are giving us some credit for our defense, or they say that to make people think we can hold our own enough to stay in the match - which makes people think harder about how much money to put down. Either way, it's truthful enough. For those who have not been watching us all season, then no matter what their money is on Newcastle anyway. And nevermind that bit about Ba - if you didn't know you don't know and they don't care, they'll still take your money

What odds are they offering on Ba to score?
