Normally Im not for chopping and changing. And if I had seen more goals, more passion, more ability and more team spirit from our players in the first 12 matches of the season, I'd say wait for Christmas before changing. But I haven't. And now the confidence in the players is rock bottom. And I do not see Hughes being able to change it round. It will be more of the same, with too little too late to save us. We desparately need to bring in someone from outside who can give the players a lift. Tony, it will be more expensive to be relegated than to sack Hughes. A new man will not need 11 more players, just 2 in my opinion. You have given Mark Hughes the best part of a year. The results are just not there. Its not being disloyal or fickle, its being rational; its a results business Tony, and we need to change manager to start getting them.
How long are we going to have to wait for TF to say Hughes has gone? Why can he not fess up now and not keep us in the dark until Monday????
TF called this a "must win" match - so will there be a new manager for next week (I guess it would hardly be fair to stick the new man with MUFC at Old Trafford, but he might as well see us at our best). I wonder if there are any qualified unemployed managers out there interested in a challenge - I still believe I saw articles about Redknapp saying he was interested in a club with the chance to be in Europe next season.
Bringing in a new manager at this time at least allows that person the opportunity to fully assesss the capabilities of the current squad, then make appropriate adjustments in the January transfer window.
We're still 'only' 5 points off the pace. It's not out of reach at all but we need to start getting points now not wait until xmas
If Hughes had any decency, he would resign. That was about as humiliating as it could possibly get. We were totally outclassed. I agree that there is now no option but to change the manager. Personally, I think Harry will be an extremely costly if not financially crippling mistake but there do not seem to be that many decent managers out there at the moment and I fear that we will opt for the big name option once again. For me the attributes of a good manager for a club like ours is someone who can spot talent in the lower leagues, nurture and develop it and make us into a club that is a feeder for the big clubs. Let's stop kidding ourselves. Whay are we paying over the odds for players like SWP, Ji Sung Park, Bobby Zamora, Andy Johnson, Bosingwa, Esteban Granero (who was absolutely ****e today even after half time when he was switched back into his favoured CM position) Anton Ferdinand, Djibril Cisse and Samba Diakite? Half of them apparently because they bought into the dream venture and because of Mark Hughes' reputation for being successful and ambitious. We were repeatedly told that he knows what he is doing and it takes time to build a good team. By that he means one that can pass the ball all day long, create two chances and score while keeping a clean sheet. For me a good team is one that can attack with pace because every player knows where he should be and therefore runs into the space. It means defenders remembering what their primary responsibility is and attackers who are mobile and provide options for the man with the ball. We saw today a team of players who had all been told not to get caught out of position and who failed to remember the basic fact that we were playing without a big target man The only players who came out of that game with any credit at all were Taarabt, Mackie and Nelsen. FFS let's get back to basics. We got rid of a manager when we were frankly nowhere near as awful as we were now. If he had lost the dressing room as was claimed at the time, by what yardstick are we now judging the Hughes' debacle? They are clearly not playing to save him and either don't care for or more likely cannot understand his tactics. Perhaps the new man can inspire them to play as a team. At the moment I see TF losing some serious money because none of them are worth what has been paid for this year and last year's mercenaries.
