Quite shocking team selection. Wonder how the likes of Slippery G felt about being left out of such a massive game? Hope justice is done and they don't get out that group now.
We can only assume that, with so many key players rested, Liverpool now see playing Chelsea as a bigger game than playing Real Madrid. Not bad for a plastic club with no History.....................
I was thinking the same. Not sure why he rested Slippery G though, playing him will be like giving us an extra man!
Just a guess but maybe Brendan 'Chelsea Ethos' Rodgers was copying Bobbie's tactics we used against Barca (and everyone) 2012. He knew Real beat them 3-nil at Anfield. Despite what ridiculous expectations many Pool fans have a realistic approach was to try and soak up the pressure and OK have maybe only four chances but try and make one or two count. The big names he left out don't strike me as notable 'water carriers'.
Some will some will not, that's what teams have a squad for, will you lot play the same side that plays tonight? No you will not there will be changes.
we are playing Maribor on a Wednesday, almost qualified and have an away game Sat. You were playing Real on a Tuesday, need to qualify and have a home game Sat. Hope you can understand the difference
Suck my wang London you bellend! **** all wrong with the team selection last night the players dropped like Balotelli and Johnson are **** so they deserve the bench, I'll agree with you and eat humble pie if Lucas is dropped for the game Saturday.
Just seems an odd time to suddenly make a statement and drop players though. I'd be amazed if it isn't the usual side pretty much on Saturday. Gerrard, Coutinho, Sterling, Baloteli will probably all come back in. Which means he has thrown away the Madrid game to have a better crack at us. Lucking for BRod he got a decent performance out of the players brought in.
Yeah like I said if he drops Lucas after that performance then something is very wrong same goes for putting the useless Balotelli in. I fully expect Sterling to start and possibly Coutinho.
Gerrard will obviously come back in, but for me a midfield trio of Lucas, Can and Henderson is what he should be playing. Can has been very impressive in the short amount of game time I have seen him get. Without Sturridge and with Balotelli likley to start, Gerrard's main asset, playing long distance balls in behind for the previously quick and mobile strikers (Suarez & Sturridge) becomes a waste. Only real decision he would have was Lallana or Coutinho on the opposing wing to Sterling. Moreno played well last night although his Prem games (Spurs aside) have been very underwhelming. Manquillo is not experienced but Johnson is a player who has definitely declined over the last two seasons. Kolo Toure was magnificent last night and Lovren's place is definitely under threat. If it was me only Sterling, Henderson and Coutinho would come back into the team, but luckily for Chelsea I'm not and Rodgers will play his usual eleven and play right into the hands of the true master.
I hope we keep a similar team. People claiming it was a weaker side are only looking at the names, not the performances. Johnson and Balotelli don't deserve to wear the shirt, Lovren as been poor and Gerrard no longer suits the way we play so shouldn't be getting to play ninety minutes every game. It was harsh on Hendo, Sterling and Coutinho although the latter is better coming off the bench anyway.
