Would Arsenal fans want third or fourth spot if they don't qualify for the last 16.

As a Chelsea fan, I did not enjoy playing Europa, even winning the final meant nothing, we just wanted to get back to the coffee shops.

But we did have FSW in charge, maybe with Jose or Carlo in charge it would be more enjoyable.

As Arsenal fans we can't really dismiss any European trophy, but having said that the Europa league is ****ing tediously long even after the group stage, it's a tricky one.

    Only two more games.
Win them both and you accrue the ranking pts you get for free in the CL for the same stage.

Was this because of your dislike for Rafa? Or are you saying that you're above the Europa League?

Never mind bloody rankings and if it's a bit tricky to win, it's a European trophy we as fans need to move away from this media mentality that's been driven into us and start remembering why we watch footy and support our clubs.

Don't really want anything to do with the Europey league. It really is like the LDV vans trophy of Europe, for the clubs who aren't good enough for the Champions League.

The issue for the Goons is money.
Without the CL piggy trough then Kroenke is going to have to start dipping into
their mythical cash balance to pay a fair bit of the wage bill.

Winning the Europa is perfect for the Goons.
They have the squad to deal with the group stages (contrast with the CL where you effectively
have to field full strength sides by default) . The CL drop-outs are those they typically beat in
    the CL group stages.

And all the above is just for an extra 2 games.

Clubs like Spurs need the Europa as a test of strength.
If they cannot secure a CL slot via the PL while having all the UEFA fixtures, then there is
no chance of doing it if they are in the CL (as 2010-11 painfully showed) .

Terrible attitude, football is about winning things, the road to glory the highs and the lows, I'd rather win the Europa Cup than finish 4th and get knocked out of the CL early doors.

I agree with Luv, better to win a cup than win nothing, even if its a second rate cup*

    * The Coca Carling Coke cup is a 7th rated cup and winning it means nothing, as UTD are out of it <grr>

When the Mancs agree with a Liverpool fan it's time to reassess your outlook Piskie. Modern football has warped up all, get back to remembering what being a fan is all about and it's not CL money or finishing 4th.

I'm pulling your pisser to be honest. But I'd much rather be in the CL and go out trying to win it than be in the Europey pot.

Yeah it's the bigger competition and what we all want to win, it's just the attitude toward Europa that I'm on about to me if your out of the CL but get a shot at Europa then that's a bonus.

The UEFA Cup was a good competition. The Europa is ****. It would be marginally less **** if the CL teams that finished third in their group didn't enter the tournament half way through it. It's like a football version of Going for Gold.

Actually, you get the feeling that the CL drop-out stuff in the Europa was designed
by someone who saw the Goons coming (such prescience on their part) .

Bit of both really Luv. We were dreadful in Europa, scraping past Rubin, Steaua and Sparta, losing all the away legs.

The atmosphere at the club was bad so it was no fun being a Chelsea fan then, the only six months of my life I have not enjoyed being a Chelsea fan. Well maybe 78/9 but I was only 7 then! Oh and 80/1 was bad going 9 games without a win

How could that be the case seeing as we have never dropped out of the CL to compete in the Europa ?

Even if we do drop out this season, how could it be the case that this 'drop out' rule was designed for Arsenal, seeing as it's never happened ?
