DM confirms that it will be a 4-man football panel then. Himself, Adams, the Technical Director and a head of recruitment. The way he talks though, the head of recruitment may well be an internal appointment, with the technical director coming from elsewhere.

Is it not just Ewan Chester?

Edit: for head of recruitment, I mean.

I was wondering that, the only reason I didn't say it was that Mick Dennis in his piece (linked elsewhere) seemed to think he may pay the price for the failings of last summer.

Interesting that Adams' target is: "to play attractive football (good) and to win as many games as he can." Well, has he been told to achieve promotion or is his private target also as vague as this?!?

I suspect after the "we can finish top half" debacle at the start of last season, the board are wisely trying to avoid giving specific targets to the public.

I think play-offs will keep him in his job, 7th-10th will be tolerated if the football is acceptable, any lower and there'll need to be damn good mitigating factors.

I noted this and agree with DH, the board are not wanting to give false hope again.

I don't think anyone could accuse our board of giving hope, false or not.

To be perfectly frank, having watched this interview and Neyul's interview on RBF's thread, I am feeling quite a bit more positive than I was!

In the longer term, bowkett has set the aim of a top half PL team, well I supose we have to have targets but this guy has a habit of talking balls recently

Hey Dave, how did it work out for the last manager you had lashings of positivity for? Oh...right. Forget I said anything.

I'm certainly not. There is nothing there we didn't already know and the truth has certainly been polished up a bit. Seriously in all of Europe Neil Adams, who just happened to already be at the club, is the best option. Total bollocks.

Doesn't matter how you dress it up, they have ****ed up on a massive scale.

Agree to a large extent with carrabuh. If NA was a shoo-in, the best available option then a) why did it take an eternity to realise and announce this when he was already at the club? and B) just who else was considered seriously to enable them to come to the decision he was an automatic choice.

I think with all the Hughton dramas and unrest they've just tried to settle for the easy life. Wimps <grr>

Of course I was the only person who thought CH was a good appointment at the time! Now we'll never know if he would have kept us up!

I worry about you gruffnuts, are you a plastic?

Neil Adams was not the No 1 target, he never was until we were turned down by others.

The trouble is, that is just not a good enough reason to appoint him.

What would the spiel have been if we got Mackay, "well it was our top priority to get someone with experience of the Division, and of promotion from a very tough league, he has knowledge of the types of players we need etc etc". They would have suggested a totally different set of requirements.

There is NO genuine reason for Neil Adams to get that job. Knowing the youth players whoopdee ****ing do, can a different manager not make an impartial judgement.

It is, and remains a joke of an episode.

After the three glorious years of ascendancy under Lambert and then a very acceptable fourth season under Hughton, it does seem rather odd that it's all gone so spectacularly tits up in recent months <yikes> :(

Bowkett needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Top half premier league, win a trophy, what planet is he on? Ain't going to happen with this board IMO.

We have money to get better players, how can they be better than what we have? We will be looking in lower leagues, second division overseas and free agents. Yes we have some youth prisoners, but we have hardly used them over the last couple of seasons. Where are we going to get a goalscorer of quality from? We have messed things up last season with this lot in charge. Do you really see it changing?

Sorry everyone but really despondent about everything at the moment surrounding our club. Just can't see anything apart from mediocrity for seasons to come.

IMO, both Hooper and RvW (assuming both WANT to stay and are 'up for the fight'), could be reasonable, but they MUST have the midfield and especially the wingers putting balls into the box - something that hardly ever happened last season.

I understand the feelings of gloom and despondency, but I'm sure that come kick off on the opening day - 11 weeks today assuming Sky don#t want to show our opening game we'll ALL be behind the tha manager and the team!! <cheers>
