It's be good but I reckon if Palace are in for him then he may go there because of Holloway. Although we are guaranteeing him first team football.
And more money I would think Brucey. I think at 31 years old the length of contract would be important too.
Not sure he is what we want. like many footballers I don't think he has a first touch. Think a slightly better ***an is a fair comparison
for the team we have now i would prefer this Campbell to the other one . but i agree Palace must be favorites
I reckon that Steve Bruce must have a striker nailed on but probably not DJ or the other Campbell. All this nonsense about going in for DJ because he missed out on Fraizer is, to me, another red herring! He might want DJ as a second striker but I still don't think we know the true picture!
Would Palace be favourites though, they play a 4-3-3 with two fast wingers, so with the form of Murray would he be guaranteed first team football, that we can offer
He's already scored 10 in 17 games in the Championship this season, ***an wouldn't get close to that.
Philip Buckingham ‏@PJBuckingham Steve Bruce signed DJ Campbell when manager of Birmingham in 2006. Excelled at Ipswich on loan this season.
Excellent Championship record Campbell, got that bit of experience that we have lacked up front since King left.
He wouldn't be a bad signing if we could get him on the cheap. At 31 he's getting on a bit, but he is the sort of natural goalscorer we're lacking and his goalscoring record in this division is decent. I think we can do better though.
More interesting is Faurlin, cracking player, I know we have an abundance of central midfielders and not going to sign one, but wouldn't he be a nice signing.
Other then being **** for us he has done well everywhere he's been. He is offside a lot though Steve Bruce didn't want to sell him but we offered 2M for him and at that time 2M was a massive amount for this league so he couldn't refuse I think he will do well for you if you get him
Would be happy With DJ hopefully Bruce can sway this one for us. Got the Knack of getting in the right positions to score which is definatly what we need, instead of ANOTHER striker who likes to come deep for the ball ala Fryatt, Proz, Simpson blah blah blah
If he has a nailed on striker, why would he or anyone need any smokescreens? Even if we are waiting for a club to buy before letting us have this "nailed on" striker, so what if people know if the deal is done?! It could alert a club to tempt - but unlikely if we have agreed it in principle and besides every club is after anything going, anwhere! You can't hide a good striker in January!! I'm slightly nervous there is nothing nailed on at all and losing FC was a blow. I think we are clutching at straws a little with the thought there is a cunning masterplan about to be hatched from beneath the smoke. In reality, I think we are in the mix like everyone and afer anything we can get!
Looking at the posts so far above - my summary response to all the above from my first hand knowledge of watching him for us and also a couple of time for others would be: He undoubtedly scores goals at this level - has a knack of being in the right place for scraps One of you mentioned his first touch - indeed it isn't great - but he is very quick (even at 31 now) which often makes up for it. As Proud_Fox mentions - he's not very good at reading off-sides (and given his speed he should be better) which does cause some frustration for supporters If you get him and play to his strengths he could just be the goalscorer that many of your posters have been asking for.
"When DJ Campbell goes for £2m – and really he's only played in Birmingham City's reserves and Brentford's first team – it's absolute madness." —Ian Holloway, BBC Online
