DJ vs. Local Media

You probably all saw something about this already: Dave Jones regrets the prickly relationship he had with the media during his time at Cardiff City.

But when I heard the bit about McPhail where he states: "Where did it originally come from? They character assassinated Stephen McPhail in a game against Swansea and continued to do that." I couldn't help but think of a certain promising youngster that has since flown the nest to join Ledley after very similar treatment, one might argue, but this time from DJ himself...!

I don't know, but as much as I appreciate the work he did under the circumstances, the way he handled that incident with the own goal and yet was able to carry on a feud based along the same sort of lines, does leave a slightly bitter taste...

Jones was his own worst enemy. We lost a lot of good players needlessly because of the person he was. Stubborn and arrogant.

At Least Malky seems to have the dressing room and the press on his side.

dave jones was very sensitive, he had a very thin skin.

we all know wales media 'journalists' do themselves no favours with their behaviour but it didnt do DJ any good to cut off links with some fans

In fairness, we don't know the full story behind Matthews.. Yeah I thought his handling of the OG against Ipswich was extremely harsh and extremely hypocritical considering his insistence on playing Naylor too.. I think that was the main issue with the fans.. And we know full well how he froze out players that did not agree with his methods and opinions yet stuck with his favourites (see Naylor above) Alexander and Gerrard most recently..

It was mentioned on numerous discussions however that Matthews' training ethic was poor and he was a little arrogant. And was also believed to be stalling on his contract despite being offered a new deal by Ridsdale, now these are rumours and whether to be believed or not depends on individuals of course.

I for one, fully backed his stance with the local journalists.. The tripe they printed was inexcusable at times and lazy to say the very least.. What pi$$ed me off was their insistence in printing pro-Sam stories like Terry Phillips' stories about Sam Hammam returning after a discussion with AA. Seriously, how did it help? and of course taking things from a certain "fan's leader" as gospel instead of actually researching anything themselves. Their reliance on that messageboard is at best, naive and does not give a fair reflection of the truth.

End of the day, i've come to the conclusion that the continuing feud between the journalists at MediaWales and DJ is just bloody boring now.. He's moved on from the club (after taking Cardiff as far as he could with relative success and the highest we've finished in years, for which he has my gratitude) and Phillips, Tucker and co are still awaiting an "apology" which in all likelihood is never going to come. Both parties need to move on imo.

i agree to a certain extent - WOL journos are very, very poor, bordering on amateur and in fairness he was probably right to stop giving them interviews because they dont deserve it, all i'm saying is that it was a bit childish from possibly both parties for it to occur. jones wasnt a very media friendly character and isnt one to take stick on the chin, so it wasnt really a match made in heaven.
