He turned you into a very good team managing to get into the top 6 mostly every season, but if/when he does go who would join you as your next manager
I don't think it's the right decision, but pretty sure its one that's going to be made... Who could come in though?? Allardyce? Grant?
Hughton may be a good acquisition, good riddance to Jones hes done nothing other than moan for you guys.
If he does go, which is more than likely, we will have to look at Chris Hughton. DJ should not be attacked by any Cardiff fan though, all be it he failed to get us up, he has made us into a threat in this league that has come close for the last two seasons. He got us to an FA cup FINAL which we lost due to a goalkeeping mistake, yesterday we looked really sharp in the first 15 but as soon as Bywater refused to risk hurting himself, we knew we were going to lose. If Bywater had smashed it as hard as he could and kept his momentum going then Long would not have even had a chance to score. IF DJ goes then he should be thanked for getting us where we are and then someone who can take us further should come in and get us over that line. It will happen but who knows when.
DJ is the best manager this club has ever had and he should get a lot more respect from our fans. With limited finances, chaos going on around him and having to sell his best players & youth prospects, Jones has steered Cardiff into play-off contention every season with an FA Cup Final to boot. Preston & Sheff Utd are examples that the grass is not always greener on the other side. This is a time of transition with the loan players going back and Jay/Burke out of contract. DJ has continually build play-off contending sides in the past and his is a pair of safe hands to ensure stability at the club.
I listened to the interview and had every sympathy for him. He is a decent & honest bloke and as already mentioned, taken little ol' Cardiff to the brink of the promised land. I think he will go - just not sure if he will jump or be pushed but I hope to be wrong. It is on the pitch and in some of the players heads where any problems may lay.
I listened to the interview - i got the impression he already knew that a loss would mean the end to his management. He was trying to keep some ‘dignity’ which I believe is the word he used by stating he needed time to re-assess. I think he has made a solid team for you lot and would be difficult to replace.
I agree, he has done a magnificent job! If he does leave, my call is John Toshack. Experienced hand, plays pretty football, knows the lower leagues from his time as Welsh Manager, a Cardiff boy and available!!
I watched the interview and thought that it could even be him resigning from the club, i mean, as everyone says, hes done a great job, but if he cant see them doing the same/better next season, maybe it would benefit the club to get someone new in to look at the team. Then again, if he was to go either way, the next manager you would get would have one hell of a task with extremely high expectations!
Agree that it doesn't look good for Jones, but which ever way it goes, he should be thanked for what he has done. A new manager would have good foundations, a good nucleus to a squad and a comparatively stable environment. Something DJ hasn't had. If Jones hadn't got us to the top end of mid table, the Malaysians would never even have looked at us. Where as we'd have struggled to get a (decent) new manager a season or two back because of the off the field problems many would now be interested. Though they'd have a challenge on their hands as anything less than the playoffs would be seen as failure!
He has to go, sad when you have to axe a manager for not getting promotion rather than for relegation issues.
