Sally McMoist fancies taking his talents and bulging squad to the bottom rung of Scottish senior football.....or so he would have you believe. I reckon this is just another bit of classic Ibrox smoke and mirrors. The Ibrox board and staff have had weeks to say that, but still pushed for SPL entry. Various things were at pointed out through that time, a lack of contrition from Newco being one of them. Now with Sally's statement, there is a bit of implied contrition. Not expressed unequivocally, but just like the condemned man who will accept whatever fate comes his way. I think he is doing a bit of manouvering here. He is soft soaping David Longmuir (ooooh, he's great!) then playing the victim card (I don't have any players/ we've been punished loads....boo hoo) and then leaving himself open to accepting whatever fate comes his way (the condemned man/ contrition bit.) Newco were made well aware of the fact that SPL clubs were not going to accept them, but still they forged ahead with the vote after the folly of an apology. Now, there is a change of tack - especially after the Stenhousemuir statement showing there might be some movement - and whilst apparently accepting of a place in Div3, I reckon that this is just ploy for support for Div 1. If voted in there, I'm sure that Sally will say is "What can you do? I wanted Div 3 and got Div 1" and shrug his shoulders, before shooting off down to Greggs for a celebratory steak bake.
As I said on another thread the Stenhousemuir statement makes it clear that if the SFL clubs don't vote to allow Sevco to join SFL1 then an SPL2 will be formed and they will be invited to join that instead. It's Hobson's choice.
I agree Rangers are saying Div 3 , in order to be given Div1. However they may just have a small doubt that they may have to for once in their lives play by the rules and have to wait until they have 3 years accounts before applying for Div 3. That would indeed be fair and without cheating. The Stenhousemuir statement is really pure Rangers pie in the sky ideas. For the greater part of 140 years Rangers have ran Scottish Football, with Rangers Dir. and ex Dir. and life long fans and shareholders manning key SFA positions and look where that has got us. Never, Never will any Rangers Sevco have any say in running a league. No new league with them would ever be recognised and with a broke Sevco running them the whole league would fold within a season, if it ever got off the ground.
