Little bit peeved this morning. Here in Mid-Wales we have a pub game called quoits. A few years ago, a well known player died and he was held in high regard. Each year, we hold a memorial doubles tournement in memory of him, with large amounts of prizemoney etc etc. There is a raffle, but best of all an auction with all proceeds to the air ambulance, which sadly couldn't save Chris. In past years, we have had a genuine signed Welsh rugby shirt, ball, Man Utd signed shirt, Chelsea signed shirt, all kindly donated by the clubs with a certificate of authenticity. So this year, we got in touch with my beloved Swans, who have donated a genuine team photo with genuine hand written autographs. Well, this is what we were told by the club. Until 2 minutes ago, we were over the moon, especially me, who was willing to go up to £250 to buy this on the day. I just checked ebay, and guess what......... ......the exact same team photo with the autographs in the EXACT same places is on there for a buy it now price of £29.99. So, the club lied and we not have a "copy" which I doubt anybody will bid on when we have to tell them it's not genuine. The club has dissappointed me a bit this morning.
You're lucky to get that. One of my good mates, and darts captain was one of the four miners killed last year in the Gleision mine tragedy. I e-mailed the club asking for any sort of donation that we could raffle or auction in a fund raising event we were holding. I gave them details to check that I was genuine and doing it under the umbrella of the official miners appeal fund, and I got an e-mail back saying sorry, but they'd already made a donation to the fund. Fair enough, but I was only asking for a signed ball or any small contribution. I'd have settled for a signed photo for the raffle
i can see jackash's point as you think you have something unique and all you got is something that is mass produced and i can see why jack is peeved, now in defence of the club they get many requests on a daily basis for donations of one kind or another and they cant give something unique to everyone that asks. It is wrong all the same to let people think they have a one off item when in fact its mass produced, I have learned over the many years that its better to contact a player rather than the club itself as you do get the personal touch and there are a few players who are big on community work with one being Ash, he is the swansea ambassador when it comes to charity work. dyer is another also tate who goes out of their way for good causes. Another Ex player in trundle will do something if they can for the fans. but yes i can see why you are disappointed jackash...
You left out Leon Britton Dai! he's very good with the fans and local folk too! Just saying............
I agree with Dai and Phil, i use to work in a day centre or adults with cerebral palsey (Untill our backstabbing council closed it down to ge their hands on a prime piece of land) and on the 2 occasions i did a fundraiser Thw Swans helped both times Once with a signed football and once with a signed shirt both presented to the winners by Garry Monk and Leon Britton, who both stayed fo 2 hours chatting to everyone and happily posing for photographs. It might well be the luck of the draw because the get hundreds of requests over a season and with a football season to complete as well they cant fit everyone in i know its unfortunate for the ones who miss out,but they are actively involved in a fair bit of charity work.I would suggest finding individual players and asking them ...Facebook is good for that (One of the only bloody things it is good for though lol)
My feelings concerning Swansea City football club and the arrogance, if not dismissive attitude, they have shown to their fans over the years has been well documented on this board. It seems that the present regime is intent on persisting with that attitude. Shabby treatment, JackAsh, but no more than I would have expected given their appalling track record as a club over the years. The football has changed but it seems that some things never will.
Well i can only speak as i find ,and although i do sympathise they where brilliant with my two requests
Terrible. Don't they have an admin person dealing with this sort of thing? Pathetic. You're right about the players though. My son went to a charity do (with Bigkidderz I think?) recently and Ash & Dyer were there.
I love the club but I have to say that in the many years I have supported them, I have found that the more successful they have become, the less attention they pay to the fans - and it permeated all levels apart, perhaps, from the players themselves. Success has always seemed to breed arrogance in them. Sad but true and I have quoted a number of instances on this and other boards in the past. One instance I have never related concerns Mickey Conway (worked for me at the time). Mickey, some might remember, had to quit the game as a young man after receiving a boot in the stomach from which he nearly died, I think against Barnsley? Everton brought a team to the Vetch for a testimonial. He was a fast, tricky winger with a bright future having played under Brian Clough at Brighton. Clough had been making overtures to take him to Forest. Anyway, we were playing Spurs in a floodlit cup game some time after Mickey quit. Naturally there was huge interest in the game which was virtually a sell out. Now Mickey with all his contacts at the club, had a free pass for the South Stand but he wanted to stand with us, his mates, on the North Bank. The rest of us paid but Mickey asked the guy on the turnstile if he could hop over (I know for a fact that this was common practise at the time and many of these guys allowed friends and family to do this on a regular basis). Anyway, Mickey made a polite request and the guy, who obviously recognised him, said, "Who do you think you are? F**k off and pay like every one else". This despite the fact that Mickey had a free pass anyway and was a popular ex player. So typical of the club at all levels in those days and it seems, at times, as though the attitude prevails to this day.
players in my experience whenever i come across them always oblige when it comes to signing stuff, a cardiff blues rugby player used to live next to my gran and he gave me a cardiff blues team photo with all the players signitures.... neil jenkins is also a gentleman when it comes to signing stuff, i remember when i queued in line for about 2 hours in marks in town to get some stuff signed, nice guy and one final tale, when i was like 5, i drew a crappy drawing of a rugby field, sent it off the wales rugby office and they gave me a poster with loads of autographs, thats rugby though.....
I can understand that they have hundreds of requests, but why say its 100% legitimate signed by the players when its mass produced, very annoyed.
see your point jackash i'd be pissed off as well i understand the reason behind mass produced stuff but for a special cause it takes a couple of minutes with a pen
Little did you know they would take that crappy drawing by a five year old and then steal the idea for your new stadium!
