A common "fact" that seems to be endlessly used is that we are no good away from home - it seems to be about the only thing Lawro can say. So I thought I would do some analysis and see the real facts. As of today - 5/4/13 - we are 10th with 39 points. If you create tables for home and away we would be 12th in the home table with 24 points - higher than Swansea, but Stoke and West Ham would be above us. In the away table we would be 9th equal with WBA with 15 points and a goal difference of -9. So, at the very worst, we are performing away from home at the same level as our league position warrants - one could argue that we are slightly better. We have a comparable away record to Swansea (16pts) and WBA (15pts) but you never hear them described as poor away from home. We are only 3 points behind Everton who are on 18 away points. The analysis shows that away form is key to surviving in the Premiership - in the home table 15 teams have over 20 points while in the away table only 10 have 15pts or more. So it it is about getting points away from home which makes the difference. Finally of the 39 points we have 61% of our points are at home and 39% are away - while Man Utd's are 55% at home and 45% away.Everton's points are 65% at home 35% away. Compare that to Reading - 78% at home, 22% away. So it seems to me that at our away form is middle of the road - not outstanding, but not bad - if we had picked up wins at Southampton and Reading instead of draws we would be 7th in the away table. Now I don't expect facts to change Lawro's opinion - after all his scientific approach would have QPR pushing for Europe - but hopefully you can trot out the above the next time our poor away form crops up down the pub.
Good points Fred and, of course good news. At this stage in the season particularly important is our current form - Last 6 Home LDWLWW Last 6 Away LWLDDW Last 6 Combined LDWDWW Which places us in 5th position. Here is a link to a table of form over that timeframe for all the premier clubs: http://www.footballformguide.net/form/barclays-premier-league
Good to see that Lawro has been following the forum - see this weeks predictions- all of a sudden we are good on the road!!!!
Lawro always has talked out his arse, worst pundit by a mile. Fulham have drawn at the Emirates and Stamford Bridge, won at White Hart Lane and the Hawthorns and were unlucky to lose at Old Trafford. The teams that don't turn up away from home are Stoke, West Ham and Swansea/Norwich.
