I put this up with absolute shock, disgust and contempt at the individual who wrote it, I hope the peron is caught and prosecuted, it does not represent me, our fans or our club.

We all wish you well Jamie P.

Jamie Paterson’s Social Media message that shocked even the most hardiest of us
Sunday, 22nd Aug 2021 19:36 by Gruff Stephens

Swansea City player Jamie Paterson was abused so badly on social media after the swans beat Bristol City 1-0 on Friday night it was shocking to read, and that it was allowed on the Twitter platform for so long.
He knew he would receive a lot of boo’s and jeering during the game, that’s only natural when a player returns to his old club, but this particular abuse, which we have decided to include in this article is a criminal offence and worthy of a custodial sentence.

    amie Paterson responded ‘Cheers Fella’
This hateful message remains on Twitter.

For us to feature this message there has to be some consideration. Is there an educational reason for doing this ? Well, clearly there is as there seems to be many people who think this is okay, and then others reading this, some very young will see it as the normal thing to do. Secondly it’s a criminal offence which anyone putting this on social media needs to learn it’s not acceptable, hopefully the police will uncover who this person is. Possibly the most important thing is that it highlights once again that disgusting hate and rhetoric of this kind on social media hasn’t, and it seems won’t be leaving us any time soon.

It’s a topic for discussion, as ever, let’s above this pathetic level of abuse.

The following responses on social media have been sourced by Fan Banter

Disgusting. One of the disadvantages of social media.
Hopefully Pato will recognise that this only represents a tiny minority of City fans and the vast majority of us are appalled by it and wish him the very best.

Don't understand why anyone does, but some can't seem to live without it and expose themselves to abuse.

The amount of rubbish that's publicly generated in the name of "social media" makes it the most abused medium in exisitence. Never used it - I maybe missing something fabulous, but phone, emails and sms do for me.

Problem is, there will always be individuals out there that lack brains, integrity or feelings for other fellow human beings, thinking it's big, hard and clever to write such vile comments from behind a keyboard. Who in their right mind would want to be associated with such a cowardly low life...
Can't blame social media TBF......those sort of people will find or use any platform to showcase their uncouth personalities.

Not blaming social media per se onefor - it's the people who abuse it that's the problem. Provide idiots with an opportunity and they'll use it. For instance the vast majority of racial abuse particularly in football is generated on social media.

The consequences of such stuff spills over and impacts on people's real everyday lives, not just the cyber lives of the keypad warriors. Policing and regulation is seen to be the answer because the massive revenue generated by these platforms means they're here to stay.

Like I say, it's not for me but then again it's (supposedly) a free world, but there's usually a price to pay for freedom.

What happens in the 'Social Medium Platforms' is a worldwide developing programme and it's problems but the emphasis of this thread is the insult directed at one of our ex players by a ' lowlife Bristol City Fan' and to allow, if they wish a) Jamie Paterson, b) Swansea City fans and club & c) all concerned that Bristol City fans in general are disgusted with the comment and the hurt it has caused, also we wish Jamie Paterson a successful life in the future.

    Steady on John - you'll get a warning......<laugh>

Wiz - since when do threads in general stick to a singular track? They generally diverge into wider issues and evolve. However I respect your intentions on one of your own posted threads and shall withdraw forthwith.

Perhaps I'll enjoy joining in over here on footballing issues regarding your upcoming league fixture - whoever that might be.

It's particularly difficult to comprehend this as Pato didn't quit the club to join a 'near rival' (not that makes this acceptable, as it does not!), but why single him out? His contract had expired and he wasn't offered a new one (a mistake by NP in my book), so he signed for another club, end of. Why the hell he should cop any abuse, or even booing is beyond me, let alone to this level.

Is that worthy of criminal proceedings? Custody? Its just words. If that becomes criminal the world we live in becomes a dark place. Good response from Patterson. Brushed it off, short, moved on.

Of course, it isn't; however, as they have said that is the standard for racist/homophobic abuse, they can't lessen the severity for a white, straight guy. (assume he's straight)

The tweet does not mention race. The severity is different when protected characteristics disability, race, religion etc are targetted. This is off at a tangent and I do not necessarily agree with tiering society using protected characteristics, but it is defined by law.

The bellends tweet falls outside the above criteria. And hopefully long that should continue or society really is ****ed.

Social media should be used for positive things and not abuse as it is so consistently. It is a platform for those who speak words of profanity and abuse and is a sign of weakness for all those who lack the moral courage of normal society. Wake up you idiots because, quite frankly, you appall me because you are not worth the breath you breathe or the space you occupy.

You do realise that this is a form of social media. It might not be mainstream like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram but it’s still social media.

That's why I said that you can't blame the social media platform.. There will always be brainless halfwits that will find a way to bolster their cowardly egos..Ignore them long enough they would so go away....Reaction from others is bait IMO..

Of course this is a form of social media, but you know what I meant I don’t use mainstream social media, such as the ones you’ve listed, this is very focused and mainly sticks to football discussion.
