http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/241930-crowd-praise/ The nauseating self-love continues on Owlsquawk. You're on your way? To Burton Albion
"Hull might be up but probably only for a year, I'm certain the memory of our support will last a lot longer and possibly be more beneficial in the long term" Now they're convincing themselves they actually won
Some have a bit of realism. Perhaps PDK could inform them that people like to chat and go on the Internet and that supporting with quiet passion is the correct way so the library atmosphere is the preferred one. "In fairness though, it'll mean nowt if 23k turn up to the first home game and act like they are in a library. We have to turn up in bigger numbers, every week, and if we generate half the atmosphere we did at wembley, and Brighton before that, we've done our job. Brighton at home should be the new bench mark we aim for."
Brighton? Is this the alternative universe in which we finished sixth in the table? Ah wait you're quoting. I'm squinting without my specs.
'ok, we lost the war, but look how many people turned up to the rallies in nuremburg.' I liked that comment
yes, some of the wednesday fans are sensible but mostly they are deluded they were going on about them all staying back when we collected the trophy but there was hardly any of them there then and a lot fewer when the wednesday players went up to get their medals they also seem to think our fans left on the final whistle and were miserable but it didnt look like it to me
From Owlstalk: <Did anyone else see the comments made by Steve claridge about us over the weekend. Apparently he reckons we had to go up on Saturday as it was a "now or never moment". > Cue assorted insults plus one sensible response: "Are we the easiest fans in the world to wind up? I think we must be" I agree with Steve Claridge. They will spend next season patting themselves on the back for taking about as many to Wembley as we did to our first play-off final. They were getting excited about the £4m they said they earned from the play-offs and how it will enable them to spend big and get promotion.
Exactly this. There were hardly any Wednesday fans in the ground when we collected our WINNERS trophy. Nobody will ever remember the losers, regardless of how many inflatables they had. I wonder if they got their money back on the air compressor The Wednesday fans I met on route were very generous with their praise, stating simply we were the better team by miles in all areas of the pitch. Yet those on Owlstalk seem to be from another universe, perhaps it was a closer game on that planet and maybe they got bonus points for having adults in face paint and beach inflatables - amateurs.
Besides the lunatics some people on Owlstalk admitted that the only player who could get into our team was Westwood. If they had been able to put Jak under pressure he may have been able to show that even that wasn't the case - or maybe not!
I really dont understand why there isn't more focus on their glory supporters. All we hear is "massive" and "atmosphere" when we should be hearing "why havent these extra 18,000 turned up every week when we have space for them in the stadium?" I echo this from my colleagues at work. They couldn't have been more praiseworthy of our performance and, without any prompting from me, said they should have been 5-0 down by the time we scored. One even said they thought they must've put cling film across their goal.
it happens to everybody at their first appearance at Wembley or at least for a long time - Bristol City and Hull City did the same in 2008 - they should know they are nothing special
A bit of realism on Owlstalk: "Thing I know people that got tickets in the general sale that have never been to a match and don't ever intend on going to a league match, they just wanted to go to Wembley and experience it all, not everyone in the Wednesday end was a Wednesday fan."
Interesting reading - even Reading got more than us! http://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/eng-championship-2015-2016/1/
Surely a bigger surprise is Fulham. I was also shocked that our average attendance this season is only 169 fewer than our last promotion season. Maybe not that many are protesting and this is our actual level.
I don't see what's so good about their support when they created some trouble, throw a coin at Snodgrass and had racist remarks - all said on their own forum. Funny how the media make a lot of someone shouting on the pitch at the end of the Derby game but ignore all this.
